Re: Tipping furniture/appliance delivery people

Kind of defines the other word for TIP....GRATUITY.... you felt you were treated gratuitously... rather than just doing the job and effectively taxed (what most tips really amount to as most jobs they are auto fo,r is employers getting away with less that min wage)

ANd by the way TIP is a really nasty concept which MEANS "To insure promptness (TIP)" or in other words paying some one enought to kiss your but... vs this person that just went out of their way to do a good job... and WELL DESEVERVED a GRATUITY

Im a notorious tipper because I have some sort of guilt complex with people doing things for me. Seeing someone sweat for me really gets under my skin.

In any event the pizza guy always gets 5.00 and if I have it handy, the furniture movers usually get 20.00.

How many deliveries can they make thanklessly throughout their day. I dont look at it like a job they have already gotten paid for, I look at it like a job that sucks and from one person to another I appreciate what they have done.

I mean, why do we tip the garbage guys at christmas or our building maintenance man? They are already getting paid for their job, usually pretty good as well. Its because we appreciate them and want to show it. Or DONT appreciate and want to pretend we do.

In any event, if you think you should tip, then go ahead. Dont ask the internet if you should or shouldnt. Sometimes just saying thank you and that you appreciate their effort is good enough.

I had heating and a/c replaced earlier this year. It took two workers 14 hours to remove my old units and install the new ones, one of them had a freaking BROKEN LEG in a cast. The job cost me close to 4k but I know they arent going to see any of that so I bought them lunch and tipped them each 50.00. I appreciated their tireless efforts and the cuts and scrapes and sweat and wanted to let them know.
