If they do a good job and cause no damage, I don't see a problem with a tip. $5 or $10 per person, depending on the size of the delivery and if they take the old stuff away works for me. For those working on longer installs or work, the offer of food and beverage isn't out of line, IMO. If I was doing a job for someone, wouldn't I be inclined to do my best if treated in a cordial manner through the offer of coffee or snacks? Hell yes.
I used to deliver to a Hell hole in Queens that required the yard people to get a fork truck and move materials so I could offload. They used to make me wait a half hour or more before they got around to helping me out. I started bringing in coffee & donuts one day. After that, they fairly tripped over themselves to help me as soon as I arrived. Coffee & donuts = cheap palm grease. |
