Re: [Info] DI-624 rev_C firmware version 2.71 beta

What kind of settings do you have on your laptop? I've got the Intel 2200BG set (along with the DHCP issues) I've got the latest Intel drivers, which helped, but now my laptop doesn't go into hibernate or standby to often. I think a driver setting is keeping it awake. Are there any particular DI-624 settings that seemed to help too?

Thanks.

Humm....

I dident think I had anything all that unique. Driver wise, I have whatever Intel had available in October.

I dissabled (as much as I could, I couldent get rid of it entirely), the WINDOWS WIRELESS client, enabled the Intel client, REMOVED the QOS and other "useless" drivers that XP wanted to load as well.

I have "auto power savings" on the 2200BG turned OFF and use the LAPTOP power profile in "power options". It seems to sleep/power off without any problems. I'd have to look, but I think I have the "minimum" power savings applied, as the timeouts in the medum/maximum settings were anoying.

I'm using my Di624 in WPA-PSK/TKIP mode with SSID Broadcast OFF and B/G Network clients enabled.

Note: Because of a bug in Dlink firmware, setting to "G ONLY", SSID broadcast disabled AND using WPA-PSK/TKIP won't work at all.

I'm also using STATIC DHCP on my home LAN as I'm using LMHOSTS on my Windows networking shares. My printers/desktops/laptops never change IP addresses when attached to my LAN. DHCP lease time is set to 1-day.

Hmm. I have a similar setup to you, mbloof. However, I have G only enabled and the option to disable SSID broadcast is grayed out (on by default).

Running XP/home and pro.sp2, DLink fw 2.50 (I toyed with 2.71b and came back), WPA-PSK/TKIP, static IPs, Ex range enabled, Super G without turbo. I occasionally have to repair the connection, but it generally works pretty well.

I also use the Intel wireless client ver. 9.0.3.x (tried v 10.x.x.x but it messed up some of my laptop features).

This is currently the most recent firmware for the DI-624/C. I've been running it for the last couple months:

»ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/di_broadband_gat···59b3.zip

It's identified as "Firmware Version: 2.59, Fri, 02 Dec 2005"

How do you tell if your 624 is actually rebooting? Is there a way to tell for sure? I'm running 2.70. Haven't noticed any problems when surfing. The only issue I've been having is my connection to work over VPN drops every few hours. I can't tell if the problem is on my end or the VPN server side.

REBooting:

The surefire way is to look at your log file on your router.

Mar/17/2006 00:00:00 Access point: xxxx started at channel x.

The time/date should equal the last time you plugged in or reset the router. If not, its rebooting/reseting itself.

What are the differences in the firmware listed above (2.59); that available on the US Dlink site (2.70 release date 8/31/05); and the beta version (2.71b). Which is the latest and most stable version and where can one get the latest version of the 2.71b build.

The latest 2.71 is build 11:
»[Info] New DI-624 firmware found

The differences I have found, and there may be others, is that 2.59b3 fixes the problem with DynDns.org when using Dynamic DNS. But in 2.59b3, you manually select either WPA or WPA2. It does not have WPA2-Auto mode, which 2.71 does.

The stability for me is about the same; they both reboot within about 18-21 hours. You need to leave UPNP enabled to get that, and don't set the clock. And turn off turbo mode and auto channel select. Otherwise, except for setting SSID and security, leave as much as possible at the default values.

Thanks JimF,

Do you know if the latest 2.71b is version 10 or 11, or later, and where I can get it. Does this version have a later release date than 2.59b3? Also, is there a utility to check the firmware being used, including the build number, without going to the interface. I installed, and have been using, an early version of 2.71b however the the interface page just states firmware 2.71b date Sept. 2005 and does not state the build number so I don't know what build number it is.

Here is 2.71 build 11 (from the previous discussion I cited):
»/r0/download/9···624c.zip

The latest release by date is 2.59b3, dated 02 Dec 2005 (I am using it now). I am pretty sure that 2.71b11 is later than the one you are using now, but you would have to install it and go to the Status/Device Info page to find out.

I have a 624C2 and decided I'd give v2.70 a try.

The router accepted the firmware and rebooted, after resetting its IP addresses I was pleased to find the WPA2-AES option (not available on v2.50 which is what I was using before).

After 4 hours of attempting to get my 3 wireless clients to connect (G650, Centrino, WM5) with *any* WPA encryption, I gave up and tryed 'upgrading' to v2.71b10.

My router would not accept v2.71b10 as all I'd get is what appears to be a bootblock firmware upload webpage when I reset the router.

I'm running v2.50 until Dlink gets all this mess straightened out.

What's the best firmware for this router? I am currently running 2.71 beta (sept 05). The router crashes/reboots constantly throughout the day. The dlink wireless adaptor that came with the router also drops the connection or can't get an ip half the time.

2.71 b11 works fine on the revC for me. DHCP and reboot issue resolved. But I won't say it works perfectly and I didn't test with torrents yet.

Make sure you don't have "Auto" selected for your wireless channel setup. Disable Super G Mode if you are not using it.

Cheers!

Currently running v2.71b11 on my router. Everything but my WM5 (Dell Ax51v) can connect.

24+ hours and no reboot issues.

Granted: I'm only using my 624c as an access point now, my 'main' router/DHCP server is a 804.

Hey, just wanted people to know, I've gone 10 days now stable with v2.71b10 upnp enabled, gaming mode enabled, turbo enabled, super G only. Looks like this new beta firmware is shaping up.

2.71 b11 works for me but upnp causes my wireless connection to get disconnected quite often, maybe its the router reseting. This is using a dwl-g520 revb card with my di-624. However with upnp disabled it seems ok though i haven't noticed disconnections.
