| Antivirus/Spyware Suite
Hello all. I am a college student who just bought a new pc. The thing is, it DID NOT come with any antivirus, or any security software. I am always on and fear that without protection I am vulnerable. I am looking for a GOOD,HIGH QUALITY software (or multiple programs) for all the protection I will need. I am new to this, so please inform me of what all is needed. I am looking for free or low cost, that can be purchased via credit card and a download, as I dont want to get it from in store, via the net please. So please enlighten me as to what as needed where to get it etc. THanks |

2 edits | reply to unprotectedstudent First of all, kudos to you for wanting to be protected. My recommendations would echo all of the ones already given. Whichever of those you choose, make sure Spyware Blaster is in the mix. You can get it here:
It is free unless you want to donate. I would not recommend going on the internet without it. |

| reply to unprotectedstudent Most of the commercial AVs are decent, but I would personally recommend KAV, F-Secure, or NOD32, if you're willing to part with your cash. The free solutions may also suffice, but none of them are on the same level as KAV, for example. On top of anti-malware programs, however, please consider setting up a limited user account and using that for your daily computer use such as browsing the net and reading emails. You might want to try this site for more information: »nonadmin.editme.com/ -- And lead me not into temptation - for I can find my way there myself easily enough. |

@cox.net | reply to unprotectedstudent How is that Avast? I am not really into paying 60-70 for a program, college is already breaking me heh. Any recommendations on free AV? Thanks again to everyone for the prompt replies and all the help. |

@cox.net | reply to unprotectedstudent So all in all would you give AVG a thumbs up or down, recommend it? Also is a firewall something I should download as well or just use the windows firewall? |

| reply to unprotectedstudent Norton to me is nothing but a overpriced resource hog..
This is what I suggest
1) windows firewall 2) NAT router 3) AVG 7.0 pro
Your system should do well with that. Pending you have XP2.
