| Can a user help block interference
I got hooked up with a WISP using Canopy 900Mhz equipment. There seems to be higher latency and packet loss than there should be. Pings to the tower are typically 50ms. The radio and antenna look like the one here.
I am about 753 feet from the tower shooting through some woods. I have a signal of -49 but my jitter is 10. I have read where jitter needs to be 5 and a max of 8.
I have verified there are no wireless devices operating in my house and the jitter remains the same. The antenna has been turned closer to the trees by the WISP to try and reduce interference but it doesn't seem to help.
Anything I could do to reduce interference and lower my jitter? |

| Moving the antenna up and down a bit might solve your problem. It might be positioned on the boundary edge of a reflection.
Turning may not be enough...it might have to be repositioned left or right also.
Are there any other 900 devices between you and the tower? -- A is A |

| reply to pbaldwin Not that I am aware of. The WISP hasn't done a spectrum analysis to my knowledge. They claim it is likely interference from their other 900 Mhz subs. They claim my being so close to the tower I may be getting feedback from the other subs.
Thanks. |

| Canopy is a polled system...and can operate in close proximity to other units.
I'm sticking with the antenna relocate myself...

Keep us posted on what happens, one way or the other.

| reply to pbaldwin Wisper cam out today and got the jitter down to 2 and RSSI at -50. No more packet loss!:D
It was a setting in the radio. I think it was the "802.3 Link Enable/Disable". It is now enabled and was not before. The tech did not say. I am glad it's fixed and they did treat me right. I am surprised they didn't notice this on install and subsequent visits. |

| reply to pbaldwin That does not make sense all the 802.3 link option does is turn off or on the ethernet port on the radio to your pc or router.. If this was checked OFF then you would not have any access at all. Something sounds fishy to me.. t least thats how it is on the 5.8 gear last time I checked?
I bet all they did was realign the ant or upgraded firmware possible not 100% sure we dicthed all our Canopy stuff and went with Alvarion a real high thruput radio and has much more cuntionality..

I would have to agree with the realignment and firmware upgrade scenario more than anything else. |

| Like I said I "think" that was the setting. I am not sure because the antenna is in the same spot. Now a firmware upgrade I can believe. On the bright side the connection is still working. Though the pings seem a bit high, 47ms then 140ms then 47ms, it's not dropping packets.
Gotta say you guys are great when users like myself have questions. Thanks to all of you! |
