Re: I want to have a virtual credit card

Citibank's is the same (one merchant) but you can control that with time/$$$ limits. Not that big of a deal imho.

I few years ago I asked my bank about similar credit card for the same reason and use it for on-line shopping - no problem.
BTW, other way - you can use PayPal service.

Please explain your position -- how is it not a big deal that what consumers thought were "single use card numbers" can actually be billed indefinitely, and that even the very educated users of this forum were fooled?

In other words, it all but renders the whole point of controlling access to your creditline moot, since repeat-charges can be made to the same VC number as long as it's the same merchant.
It would be nice to hear that was inaccurate. Anyone?

Hmm. Well, I guess I said that because of my own personal view, which is not to say it isn't a big deal to everyone. Allow me to explain.

Since I began using virutal numbers (I call them virtual, not one-time-use, but again that's just me) about three years ago I have always set a dollar limit. With a limit set it doesn't really matter to me if the number is a one-time-use or a one-merchant-use -- either way it is dollar limited to the order I am currently placing and thus can't be "exploited". Also, by default Citibank expires the number about one month after use.

That's why I said it isn't a big deal in my opinion.

BTW, I've actually had this system bite me in the backside. I ordered something that I ended up returning for a refund. By the time the RMA paperwork and shipping/etc was done the virtual number had expired! The merchant could not credit "my card"... I ended up with a store credit... Anyone have any experience with this type of deal?

Visa sells gift cards that are like a prepaid credit card, and can be used anywhere that takes Visa. Most banks have them, but we usually buy ours at the mall office.

We bought one for my teenager and "recharge" it when she wants to do some online shopping. Great for gas allowances if you have a driving teen because they can use it to pay at the pump as well.

Bank debit card with visa logo and 2 bank accounts. One for online shoping only that has zero funds when your not shopping online and has only the exact ammount of purchases when you do.Use a bank with online banking (most have that) and has instant or near instant funds transfer (alittle hard to find). I my self use first merit and when i have a full time job instead of odd jobs ill open a secound account just for online purchases. This way you have a credit card with very low limits to zero and dont have to worry about it getting used for cc fraud. These debit cards work exactly like ccs but have no intrest charges and no credit line. So when used as a cc only the ammount of funds in the account can be used. It limits your online shoping risks to a point of where you dont need to be the least bit nervous.
