Digital Age 888-529-98

Yet another Digital Age charge for $24.99 here. Mine, however, doesn't say Cyprus or SWE. Instead all I have is: DIGITAL AGE 888-529-98. The transaction occured on 9/17/2005 and posted to my account on 9/19/2005.

I called Bank of America to report the fraudulant charge. The woman I spoke with said she was aware of a legitimate Digital Age transaction processing company (they handle online software purchases supposedly), and she asked if I had purchased any online software recently. Other than upgrading my Quicken (direct from Quicken's website) a couple months ago - I haven't. The woman on the phone did concede that it was odd the last two digits of the phone number were missing.

She went ahead and filed a dispute claim so that they could get more information from "Digital Age"'s bank. In the meantime, she went ahead and placed a credit in my account for the $24.99.

I will likely request a new credit card, and will let you know what they find out during the dispute.

And if it helps anyone, my card information is saved by Amazon, PayPal, Newegg, Netflix, and Vonage.

My card was stored on Amazon and Paypal.

I have made no on-line purchases for anything in the past month.

This is indeed a fraud, as is evidenced by the many posts here. I had the same $24.99 charge on my debit card on 9/28/05. I called the bank immediately, after reading the thread here and they had to cancel my debit card. I will now have to go and change my information with several companies that automatically bill me using that card number... but I digress.

I have also filed a complaint with the IFCC (»ifccfbi.gov) AND with PayPal! The one thing that I had in common with anyone who had posted here was that PayPal had my card information and I used the PayPal service earlier this month for my one and only Ebay purchase ever.

IMPORTANT!! If you use PayPal, you should not only change your password and account information, but you might want to register a complaint with them that you suspect your information was compromised due to your use of PayPal. I am 99.9% certain that this is how this happened (they are the only online company that has my credit card information). This is not the first time PayPal has had these types of problems, from what I understand. I cancelled my PayPal account and will never use it again. Of course, this is just how I chose to handle it, but thought you all might want to know the likely tie between the two. BEWARE!

Please don't assume it was an online company. The credit card numbers likely did not all come from the same place. For example, a waiter can easily conceal a card reader inside his jacket and scan your card in a second or two. Many merchants still print the full card number on their copy of the charge. The list goes on. The only folks that can figure it out are the credit card companys who have access to all the transactions charged to the cards and can do an analysis to find the common thread or threads.

No, I don't think the numbers were randomly generated. That's a lot harder than it seems at first.

I recieved my bill today and the only thing I use my credit card online for was NEWEGG, I guess they are fraud. Now in my credit card i see

24.99
CHECK CARD PURCHASE
DIGITAL AGE 888- CYPRUS SE

This fraud happens to a lot of people I assume ? What should I do, should I contact my bank, change my credit card number and never get anything online anymore ?

You really need to go back and read ALL of the posts of this thread. I have never purchased from NewEgg.com, but do have that charge, too.

I was just hit by this one too. My credit card number was also saved on Paypal and Amazon. Not that either one is the reson for the security breach. But who knows? When reviewing my recent charges, I didn't recognize the name "Digital Age". I found this thread when trying to find out who they are. Thanks for the confirmation.

I had the same charge: $24.99 on 9/20/05 Name: "DIGITAL AGE 888-529-98 CYPRUS SWE"
I keep my cc# in Newegg.com, Staples and Paypal. We can eliminate Newegg.com, since someone got charged without using Newegg. So very likely it is Paypal! D*mn Paypal!

One more time - there is no reason to think that the card numbers were obtained from an on line merchant. It is just as likely that they were stolen elsewhere and sold to the scammers. Your friendly neighborhood gas station, the pizza joint on Elm street, the resale clothing shop in the old strip mall.

I ALSO have that same exact charge on 9/17 for 24.99. My card was stored at Amazon, but not PayPal...So it must be Amazon.com!

I also saw the transaction from DIGITAL AGE 888-529-98 CYPRUS SE for 24.99. I called up CitiBank and they told me that the transaction originated from Sweden so I went ahead and cancelled my card.

I have the credit card information stored on Ebay, Brinkster Web Hosting and Yahoo. Although I might have had this credit card stored on PayPal few years ago.

I got this charge on my mastercard on 9/17, posted 9/19.

I think this charge might have been from all those credit card information being stolen a month or so back.

Actually, I do assume it is PayPal because they are the only online source who has had my debit card information, and I do not use that card for anything but online purchases (I don't use it at restaurants, gas stations, or anyplace else... I have another card for that). So, though it is not my first online purchase, it was my only online purchase (or purchase in any form) using that card number.

I don't place blame lightly, and if I wasn't pretty sure how it happened to me I wouldn't have posted about it. Though there is the possiblity that the culprits are getting their information in several places.

My main point though, was that if you use PayPal, you should take measures to protect yourself, as this is not the first time they have been tied to accusations of fraudulent charges. Change your password at the very least. I just took it a step further to keep this from happening to me again.

My charge came on october 1st -
DIGITAL AGE 888-529-98 CYPRUS SE

Wow! Unbelievable!

I also registered it at »ifccfbi.gov ....and am currently trying to get paypal to remove it.

yet another Digital Age victim here. I noticed it on my Sept. statement from Capital One.

It's tremendously inconvenient to deal with the fraud dept at Capital One and even getting to speak with a real person is time consuming.

I had to update my credit Card info with PayPal a couple of weeks ago. So, taking what everone else has said into account, I have to believe that the problem originates with PayPal too.
