| reply to imthejonesn1 I'm looking at this now, Steve.
Can you generate a Startup Listing using HijackThis to post here (it gives me a little more helpful info).
Open HijackThis and press the *Open Misc Tools Section*
You'll see the Startup Section, please checkmark the two boxes in that section and then preess the button to Generate Startup List and post the text it gives back here.
If you're going to reformat instead, please let me know.

| reply to imthejonesn1 Thanks! You've got something running as a rogue service. Even though HJT says in the 023 section {file missing} it may not actually be missing. Whereas in the 02 & 03 sections HJT is usually correct about the file missing, so some of these may or may not have already been removed.
Scan with HijackThis and checkmark these items, then press *fix checked*

Look for this file (Make sure you have configured the PC to show hidden files) C:\WINDOWS\System32\gmjkqahv5.exe
Scan it here: Jotti Malware Scan »virusscan.jotti.org/
or here:

If found infected, please copy the report and post the results back here.
If it is infected, then delete the file and reboot the pc.
If you are unable to delete the file, See if you can locate it in the list of services Start > Run and type in services.msc You are looking for this one: vjhnhmhsirvi: C:\WINDOWS\System32\gmjkqahv5.exe (autostart)
When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows. You should now be able to delete the file
Scan again and post a fresh HijackThis log please.

| reply to imthejonesn1 Ok! Let us know.
I just need you to be sure that file wasn't on the system. HJT doesn't always report correctly the (file missing) in Section 23. So if you did search for it (and had configured to show hidden files), then it probably was removed in a earlier cleaning. -- It takes a disaster to make a woman out of a female Microsoft MVP/Windows Security 2003-2005 Proud Member of ASAP (Alliance of Security Analysis Professionals) |

| reply to imthejonesn1 Remote Mapics server security issues
As an aside, if you suspect the PC was compromised, have the MAPICS administrator check the remote system for security issues.
If they're running Mapics DB/XA, it has ODBC connectivity and depending on your employee's access level and user profile authorities on the remote (guessing V5 or above i-Series) system, the server's data could also be compromised. Since you have i-Series access for Windows on it, that's a VERY real concern as it's a beautiful ODBC client with the capability to create and run SQL reads or updates against the I-Series native DB2 databases as well as the MAPICS physical and logical files.
Depending on the data stored on the system, you may be subject to SOX rules. Let the remote site know if your employee's PC has been compromised to avoid any exposures or repercussions. -- Every Good Electrical Engineer Zeroes Each Register |
