izvie join:2005-06-16 Centreville, VA | How to Clean a Laptop Screen? I got a new laptop, and accidentally smudged it with a fingerprint. I tried cleaning it with a soft cleaner tissue that I use to clean my glasses, but it didn't work. Any recommendations on removing the fingerprint off the screen?
Thanks! |

You can find them at most eye doctors, or in the eyeglass/contact solution section in Costco. I find that it's easier to clean when the screen is cool, so turn it off fifteen minutes or so before you clean it. -- "I wonder if other dogs think poodles are members of a weird religious cult." -Rita Rudner |

The smudge was on the laptop's screen. Won't alcohol wipes smudge the plastic laptop screen worse?

I highly recommend these: »www.clean4less.com/Product/Resul···208574GM

Paper towels were made to dry your hands and wipe the counters, not to clean your screen with. -- "I wonder if other dogs think poodles are members of a weird religious cult." -Rita Rudner |

Like jlramirez , I have elected to go with a "custom" solution using stuff designed specifically for cleaning LCD monitor screens.
I picked up some Kensington Screen Guardian - but you do need to check with the manufacturer of your computer or monitor to see what materials can and cannot be used on that particular unit. The Kensington stuff contains "Water, 2-Butoxyethanol and Ethanol". In other words, it's alcohol based, which some monitors don't handle well.
Additionally, I picked up some 3M Lens Cleaning Cloths (3M catalog #9021) - "Removes fingerprints & Smudges without scratching". These are dry clothes, I picked them up at CompUSA recently. They claim to "lift dust and oils from delicate lenses without the use of chemicals". They're washable and reusable. -- ...then THINK! again!! |

It's kinda expensive ($20 at Best Buy) But it comes with a microfiber cloth that will not leave ONE visible speck of lint. The spray will last you forever and comes out in a super fine mist that doesn't leave any streaks either. I'm very particular about my stuff and it's great for cleaning glass, mirrors, dual 17" lcd's etc. EDIT:It's also alchohol free.
Sorry about the low res pic, the nearest thing with a camera in it was a PDA....
But it is VERY nice stuff. I think it might be cheaper on eBay though because at $20 there is still 13 in markup so shop smart and I bet you find yourself a deal.
