I wonder how cable and dsl are going to react?

I just know this won't go down without a fight from the cable and dsl companies because they will lose business to google.

You don't have to wonder - here is a quote from MaBell's spokesbot: (this oughta crack you guys up - it did me!)
--------------
SBC spokesman John Britton said his company encourages competition but believes that governments should seek greater investment from private companies to increase broadband service. He said San Francisco already was served by SBC and enjoyed more than 400 free Wi-Fi hotspots, more than any other city in the country.

"We feel there is already widespread broadband available today," Britton said.
------------

that's in this article on sfgate:

By "greater investment from private companies" of course, he means more goverment handouts and subsidies to Bell. 100+ years later, they're singing the *same* tune they always have, and it's mostly worked for them so far !

Agreed. Fighting will do crap because Google is offering something free and if ISP's in the area have a problem with that, Tuff luck I guess because it's Google's choice as to how they want to price it.

Google is awesome!

Stay up north with the free healthcare. Because nothing is free and we taxpayers don't need anymore free-riders.

You got that damn straight!

We (down here w/no healthcare) prefer electing governments that put us deeper in debt year after year

Until google offers television services, the cable companies won't care. Cable internet is not much of a money maker by itself.
