1 edit | [Connectivity] Modem reset for reasons unknown
I've had Charter for over a year with rock solid services and speeds but for the last 2 months my modem will reset on its own at random times. When this happens its just like you had power cycled the modem or rebooted it. Tech support had me go and get a new modem, the new one does the same thing as the one did. I was looking at levels and SNR and they look to be in spec, however I can't look any more due to password has been changed for some reason. I don't know if charter changes these or what but can't get in anymore. I was just wonder if anyone had ideas WTF could be going on here. Any input would be great |

| reply to jwhoff We've been having this problem with our Cisco UBR for the past several weeks. At random times, the modem loses all connectivity as the dark US/DS/DSNR lights and blinking LINK would indicate. Connectivity returns to normal after a few minutes.
Called into KY, everything looks good but they rolled a tech anyway. Tech came out and said the same thing... All levels are "damn near perfect" but would have the local engineer monitor it anyway.
Well, it's happening less frequently now (maybe once or twice a day), but it's still happening.
The last time we had this problem it turned out to be defective hardware in the local remote cable office, or so I was told.
If your signals are good, just hang in there. I know it's a real PITA, but they will find the problem eventually. -- Proud member of BBR Team Starfire |

| I feel your pain. Just a few minutes ago I had a half-dozen remote shells closed on me due to another disconnect.
The best thing you can do is keep calling in every time it happens. Eventually they'll notice there's a problem and investigate further.
In my case, the tech noticed some sort of signal issue with the head end just as I called in. After a minute or so, the signal was back to normal and I was back online. He said it may be an indication of a problem with some hardware and will notify the local engineer(s). -- Proud member of BBR Team Starfire |
