| reply to Bandito Throttling massively down to a few kB/s occurs in congested areas, out here in Abbotsford I can get 200kB/s DL and average 30kB/s UL.
As for newsgroups servers, www.slyck.com in their forums has a list. I'd choose between usenetservers.com (link might be wrong) or giganews, depending on you want speed, efficiency in getting releases, transfer limit, completeness, retention, etc. |

Parity binaries do not have to be complete on the server to work. |

Parity binaries do not have to be complete on the server to work. Yes, did I say they had to be complete? Nonetheless, it makes it difficult to get enough recovery blocks to repair a file when you've got a 700 meg file and only half the parities are complete. You can still end up SOL if enough complete blocks aren't available. Try posting something useful. |

| reply to GooGOoly Its irrelevant which shaw newsgroup servers you connect to, they got all the same files on them, down the the same article, guess they use one server to connect to other usenet servers and distribute from there. Anyways, its extremely horrible now. I tried downloading from alt.binaries.multimedia for three of my tv shows the past two days, all of them have either 10 to 14 out of 16 posts for each .rar file complete. Thats ridiculous, even with the pars, which half of them were incomplete as well, I needed three times more the amount of blocks to complete it. Thats ridiculous. Shaw should just lower the dam retention rate, that way at least files will be completed. Right now, no files worth getting since their all so incomplete. Another ridiculous thing were the HR-HDTV versions, one of them had 1/12 for all its .rar's for the whole post! I mean seriously wtf. |

@142.232.x.x | reply to GooGOoly Re: Serious Incomplete files
it does matter
the usenet provider only caches a certain number of files/headers per group..
if it is a big binary group, expect more incompletes, because the server has already cached all the alotted space |

Everything I've downloaded in the last week has had too many incompletes to recover with par2 files ... Really ... Really ... Annoying ... |
