I have ran some line tests, it appears to be a Level3 backbone issue in Orlando.

The problem popped up about a week ago when my ip changed from a 24.* to a 68.* . I am not sure what relevance it has if any, meerly an observation.

Yep it appears that ge-2-1.car1.Orlando1.Level3.net, or so-1-0-0.mp1.Orlando1.Level3.net are at fault. Packet loss starts at one of those in every one of my line quality tests. Although I did some ping tests from another site and did not see any packet loss when testing those ip's directly.

I emailed in some trace routes to CFL Bright House last night and they fixed the problem.

do a tracert www.yahoo.com

find the first hop, second if you using a router..

and ping -n 50 iphere

and see what the avg, and highest latency is...

Clermont here, wow is this slow. Usually 600K downloads (5mbps) and now at 40K!

WTH is going on? Who do we notify?

It was fine this morning and yes, now it's all messed up again. I just emailed 3 new trace routes to support.

I have ran line tests this morning and then again this afternoon, the problem does not appear to currently exist.

Here is the email I got from BrightHouse on what to do to let them know. Follow these intructions and send it in!

For a PC with Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 and Millennium Edition, please use these instructions:

1) On your taskbar, click on the “Start” button, and then choose “Run”.
2) Type "command" or in the box next to “OPEN” and press the enter key. (This should open an MS-DOS prompt.)
3) (For Windows XP, type “cmd” in the box next to “OPEN” and press the enter key. (This should open an MS-DOS prompt.)
4) At the “c:\windows\desktop>“ type the following command:
• tracert www.yahoo.com > C:\trace01.txt
• tracert www.shareware.com > C:\trace02.txt
• tracert www.netsols.com> C:\trace03.txt

(For example: "Tracert [website name] > C:\tracexx.txt" Where XX is the number of the trace). It might seem as the computer is not doing anything, but it is. Please wait until you receive the C:\windows\Desktop> before typing the next Tracert command.)

5) The files that these trace routes generate, will be located in the root directory/folder "c:\"
6) Type exit when you have completed all of your traces
7) Open Outlook Express and create a new mail message.
8) Included your telephone # and the modem Mac Address.
9) In the "To:" field type Cfl.Speed@mybrighthouse.com, and in the "Subject:" field type "Speed Traces"
10) Copy and paste all of the tracexx.txt files into your email message and click Send.
11) For help on attaching files to a mail message, click on the help button in Outlook Express)

Although you can use the web sites provided in the examples above, we strongly suggest that you use web sites that you have tried to access and have observed the slow speeds or time outs. Please include at least 3 to 5 trace routes so that we can more accurately tell where the problem resides.

Note: If you are using a Macintosh, you will need some third party software. Please note that some of these programs are free, and some are shareware. We also do not provide any support on these products. Below are two of a few programs that will do a trace

Hi - the problem has been ongoing for about a week. The ping on the Call of Duty United Offensive servers is 50-60 in the morning. At night it's 500-600.

Moronic Canadians at Road Runner Technical Support don't know how to stray from their script. Unplug modem, blah, blah, blah.

I can't get anyone at Brighthouse who is relatively bright to convince them the problem is in the network and not my computer.
