Indeed "Made in China". So does anyone know if this has to do with encryption exportation laws?
I believe the made in china 327W were the first batch westell issued to verizon. That time the standard encryption was WEP only. Most 327W models issued with WEP only encryption, if I remember correctly, starts with A90. The USA made ones model starts with B90, like for example mine is
Model Number B90-327W15-06
And the firmware version is 03.02.00a.

Are those guys idiots or what?

WEP is soooooooooooooooooooo dead.

WPA2 is already poised to come out.

A GOOD ROUTER has to have at least WPA.

Now a way to get a BETTER DEAL:

Install the crap (Westell 327 Made in CHINA)

USE it with the firewall on!!

Surf the web. I'm quite sure, very quickly you'll see red lights on the 327.

Have it reboot on you.

NOW YOU HAVE A REASON TO SEND IT BACK!!!!

It is defective!!

The nice paradiscowgirl can attest to what I mean.

Call Verizon, tell them your problem, and that you have a warranty. Insist of getting a NEW 327 or something which is of equal value = the Actiontech.

DON'T SETTLE BELOW!!!!!

AND DON'T LET THEM TALK YOU INTO HAVING TAKEN OFF THE FIREWALL ON THE OLD CRAP 327!!!!!!!!!!!

Indeed "Made in China". So does anyone know if this has to do with encryption exportation laws? Westell doesn't support the modems shipped by Verizon? Funny, I called Verizon and they directed me to Westell.

What version of the Westell 327w comes with WPA? More importantly if there is a firmware upgrade, where can I get it to enable WPA? I am currently using Version 03.00.63a.
Sounds like you have a version assembled in China and in which case, you are out of luck. There arent any publicly available firmware upgrades -- Westell doesnt support the modems shipped by Verizon. The best you can do is ask Verizon to ship you another 327w and hope its a version assembled in the USA as Verizon cannot guarantee which version gets shipped to you.

Basic

Security
You can access the 327W through your browser by default »192.168.1.1. If you access the modem first time and it is still in default mode, the user=admin and password=password. You can configure the wireless settings in the configuration menu/wireless. Configuration|wireless menu consist of:
a. Basic - This where you enable the wireless, change the SSID, & Mode.
b. Security - You choose the encryption here(WEP or WPA), use WPA if available, put at least 21 character keys.
c. Mac Filter - This is self explanatory.
d. Advanced - For now leave it in default, change later after you read the manual.
Take note the 327W is hard to connect to if you disable SSID, Use MAC filtering if WEP is the only encryption available.

Modedit per bluepoint: Changed user=user to user=admin
