| HDTV in north AL
I live in the hartselle decatur area and was thinking about giving hdtv a try. Do any of you know which box charter uses in my area? I am hoping to get a SA 8300hd. I have heard bad things about the picture quality of most motorolas in analog and sd not to mention someone on this forum mentioning his motorola has ad's in the guide. I have also heard the sa 8000 has bad analog and sd picture quality. Any info will be appreciated. TY |

| North AL is an SA market, so you don't have to worry about getting a Moto set-top.
By the way, both of the set-tops you mentioned have built in DVRs. Unless you already subscribe to the DVR service, there will be an extra cost associated with DVR set-tops.
I've personally used the SA8000, SA8000HD and SA8300HD, at one time or another, so below you will find my opinions on each.
Let me start by stating that I don't own an HDTV. Thankfully, the HD boxes will down convert the HD signal so that it can be displayed on a non-HDTV.
YMMV on a true HDTV, but in my opinion the SD PQ on all of the boxes looks fine on my analog Sony VEGA. The PQ on the down converted HD channels looks better than most DVD's.
SA8000: 80 or 160GB Hard Drive. No HD. Slow guide response. SA8000HD: 80 or 160GB Hard Drive. Slow guide response. SA8300HD: 160GB Hard Drive. Quick guide response. Slightly smaller form factor then SA8000 series set-tops.

As it is right now, the SA DVR's cannot compare to my Tivo. I hear that MOXI is much much better. -- Get Firefox today, the browser you can TRUST |
