| [TWC] Level3 breaks public peering FYI everyone ... Level3.NET has decided to turn off public peering with Cogent (and others) this morning at 6am.
What does this mean?
Anyone with connections through Level3.NET (like RoadRunner) cannot access certain Internet sites because Level3.NET refuses to route to them.
This is just greed! Level3 basically wants everyone who peers with them to pay, and not provide any free public peering.
Everyone should call Level3.NET at 877-453-8353 and complain.
I am a RoadRunner customer and can no longer access my office because my office is connected via Cogent.
Level3 needs to hear from the Internet community that what they are doing is wrong.

my own domain, which has not been reachable by me from roadrunner, can be reached directly by a friend on the att network, so roadrunner's problems today may be even broader than connectivity with cogent.

I have a friend who is on AOL w/ Brighthouse Cabe & has connetions to all the sites. But I refuse to put that software on any pc.
If you have a wireless pc connection try & see if you can connect via a neighbors DSL. I got 4 listed but only one is verizon & works fine..very slow but fine. The slow is a weak wireless signal. LOL:(

It cost's level3 nothing to peer with cogent bandwidth wise because the only bandwidth cogent is using is whats already on level3's backbone, its not like they are accessing sites out of level3's network

 Truth--
| Public Peering is what makes the internet work. Its what allows Networks, ISP's, etc, to provide access, its not a matter of 'a customer not paying L3' its a matter of L3 saying, lets hold the intarweb hostage, and see if we can extort some money for it to be back in running order.
My guess is, they are going to lose alot more money from this fiasco then they planned on making.
Seriosuly, like the first post says, everyone needs to call Level3, and state that this is unacceptable, they are highly endangering their public support, and generally just voice their opinion, after enough calls from consumers (and trust me, enough companies like persay ev1servers.net have probably mentioned it to them as they are gettgin 1000 issues with peeople not accessing their servers) etc
