| reply to jchin Re: [TWC] Level3 breaks public peering
Public Peering is what makes the internet work. Its what allows Networks, ISP's, etc, to provide access, its not a matter of 'a customer not paying L3' its a matter of L3 saying, lets hold the intarweb hostage, and see if we can extort some money for it to be back in running order.
My guess is, they are going to lose alot more money from this fiasco then they planned on making.
Seriosuly, like the first post says, everyone needs to call Level3, and state that this is unacceptable, they are highly endangering their public support, and generally just voice their opinion, after enough calls from consumers (and trust me, enough companies like persay ev1servers.net have probably mentioned it to them as they are gettgin 1000 issues with peeople not accessing their servers) etc |

| reply to jchin A lot of people park domains with traffic for monetization - a lot of those PPC providers are now disconnected from millions of users. My revenue is down 30% today. This is affecting business a whole lot more. The ads served by Google will affect their revenue as well. It's a chain reaction. |

| reply to jchin Anybody know of a non Level3-influenced dialup ISP that doesn't force me to download and install cruddy software in order to connect? Is SBC Yahoo Level3 influenced? Earthlink gives me the runaround and keeps trying to convince me it's my computer's problem - they won't even look into Level3's connectivity despite my linking them to here and several other articles. |

| Yeah, I cant get FIOS in my area, but I will have to move off RR if this isnt fixed by tommorw, my buisness runs on a CogentCO connection and i have to use proxys just to administer my servers, and frankly this type of thing is unacceptable. RoadRunner should have more than 1 ISP so if something like happends, everyone is not stuck in the mud. |

| reply to Level3sucks I switched my Brighthouse connection from RR to Earthlink in Fl. last nite. No better but $29.95 for 6 mos. & give RR somehing go think about. I have a friend who is on AOL w/ Brighthouse Cabe & has connetions to all the sites. But I refuse to put that software on any pc.
If you have a wireless pc connection try & see if you can connect via a neighbors DSL. I got 4 listed but only one is verizon & works fine..very slow but fine. The slow is a weak wireless signal. LOL:( |

| reply to equiptec said by equiptec :I switched my Brighthouse connection from RR to Earthlink in Fl. last nite. No better... I hope you switched for reasons other than this current routing issue. As you've discovered, switching to EL Cable didn't, and wouldn't, solve your problem. Your routing is EXACTLY the same today as it was yesterday. RR controls the routing, not EL. |

| My brother and grandfather both have EL cable through TW and everything works fine for them. I'm on RR, in the same city, and I can't access sites, photobucket.com etc, they can. If this doesn't get resolved soon I may switch over and see myself. It is cheaper for 6 months |

@rr.com | reply to jchin I just got off the phone with Brighthouse(Bradenton, FL). They say that they are still having problems with Cogent. They are still working on it but don't have any idea when it would be fixed. |

| reply to jchin Same problem here. I tried photobucket to no avail as well. It seems to be affect my uploading with BOINC SETI as well. Does anyone happen to know the ip addy for uploading for SETI? -- Don't argue with an idiot, people watching may not be able to tell the difference. |

| reply to jchin My servers clocked the issue at 5:44 AM and Orlando BUSINESS CLASS support no less made me call verio, cogent, and level3 to find out the problem. Apparently they were not aware at 5 in the afternoon (12 hours later) that a routing problem existed.
If i were you, if you were affected, i would look into if its possible to make legal action against level3 for disruption of business, and loss of profits because they can be liable for that, from what i heard. |

| reply to jchin Yeah, if you can't get to the sites you want on the internet, I'd cancel service... that really sucks. Really now, TELCOS have MORE dark and lit fiber that CABLECOs,, so I think cablecos have more to lose here in terms of customers... I mean cablemodem service was bad enough without this nonsense... |

@rr.com | Through their Customers. peering agreements are beneficial to both sides, because it enables both sides of customers to reach things they would not have before.
I think that Level3's CEO wants a payraise. |

| reply to jchin Cogent sells bandwidth. Level3 sells bandwidth. They both have to get it somewhere. One solution is to buy transit - which is exactly what you and I do when we subscribe to cable or DSL. Another solution is to have a peering agreement with another ISP. That's what L3 and Cogent had.
If you research peering agreements, you will find that all (so far as I have ver seen) set requirements on the balance of traffic in and out. Cogent is noted for hosting a lot of sites, including especially porno, that send out large volumes of data but there is little in the other direction.
For those who are unhappy about not being able to reach your Cogent site, perhaps you should have chosen another supplier. Their problems are well-known, have been well-known for years. Read their financials. |
