2 edits | Radio Mobile Deluxe Install and Setup
This thread is for discussion of the setup and installation of Radio Mobile Deluxe. Installation of Map data and other configuration things belong here as well... Actual mapping techniques probably should be in another thread. Sources for maps should be here, for example I know some of the Canadian folks have to use different sources for their map data and that information should be in this thread.

Zoom in to your area, define the download area, select the 1/3 arcsecond NED, when the download window pops up, select "Modify Data Request", change data format to BIL. Download file, stick into RM directory or some other location, and in your map properties dialog in RM select a line for BIL and the directory you stored the file.
Presto, you have much better imagery than before.
*this is really rough, but you'll get the idea. |

 SRTM Options |
RMDLX can process srtm files which have the .zip extension. That lets you keep more files in your SRTM directory.
I have a directory on my system which is c:\srtm and I store all my files in there.
There is a setting in RMDLX which tells RMDLX to download and save a copy of the SRTM files as you use them:
Under "OPTIONS"->"Internet"->"SRTM" You will find a place to enter the directory to store your SRTM data and check buttons about whether to save copies of downloaded SRTM.
See attached image for the exact setup of my SRTM options. -- How can I improve my WiFi signal? |

| reply to DaDogs Roger Coude', the author of RMDLX, posted this to the Yahoo Groups mailing list for the software:
SRTM version 2 is available for you to try. The internat.dat must be changed to reflect the new location at »ftp://e0srp01u.ecs.nasa.gov/srtm/version2/ I will provide the updated version soon in the sup.zip file Roger

I hate to ask, but is there any *nix-based software similar to this? |

| reply to DaDogs what is kindof confusion me is that for a single physical location i might have many different antennas, sectors, dishes of varying gains, yagis, etc, on different frequencies.
for example, i might have a 32.5db @ 5.8ghz going one place, and a 26db @ 5.8ghz going another. how can i have this setup, so far it appears i only can have one system per unit? |

In Radio Mobile you define Networks of Systems at Locations. The "Unit" is a specific system in a specific network at a specific location. You can have many units a one location. They can be in different networks or the same network.
What is not obvious is that a system is just a definition of a "system type". I can define a "system" in Radio Mobile which has the characteristics of a Canopy 5.8 GHz AP or a Linksys WAP-54G. Those are system specifications. I can then place any system type at a unit location and I now have a "unit".

| reply to DaDogs I do seperate networks for different frequency ranges.
2.4 ghz distribution, 5.8 ghz backhauls, 900 mhz distribution, etc.
It means that I have to duplicate units for housekeeping, but that way I don't mix and match gear from wrong networks. |

Go to unit properties, check the box at the bottom that says "show only units that are a member of a visible network"
Go to Network properties, click "membership" button. You can then select or deselect any units to associate them with the network you want to map. |
