Welcome to the club! I have the NetGear DG834 with the latest firmware and it is rock-solid. It typically stays connected for one month at a time.

Of course, it isn't "supported" by Qwest. So you need to keep an Actiontec or Cisco around just for those rare occasions when you need to convince Qwest that "they" have a problem.

Yes I have and now it works great. It was pretty hard to get since it was barely online to surf web pages.

Have you updated to the newest firmware

»kbserver.netgear.com/products/dg834gv1.asp

After that then check the sync events recorded in the
Network Management Information.

I have purchased a Netgear DG834G to replace my Actiontec modem. It works great ... when it works. The connecion constantly gets disconnected, and thus I get disconnected via the wireless and the DSL connection itself. What is happening? Is there something I need to do to stop this?

jaybe69: try putting a $ symbol in front of your wep key. Most things apple does VERY well... for some reason they feel the need to be novel when it comes to wireless.

Any suggestions on this issue? I've set up my dsl modem (by Actiontech), with Qwest service, but my Internet access only works with the ethernet cable connected to the powerbook. It is a wireless modem, but I cannot get the laptop to recognize the signal. Is it a setup step I missed? I have used my laptop in other places with a wireless signal broadcast, and it automatically recognizes it. Otherwise, service has been great. Just hoping to be able to roam around while connected, without having to plug in. Thanks,

jaybe

I'm trying to set up remote desktop with the qwest actiontec modem and linksys wrt54g router but I can't seem to get it to work; I can remote from my laptop to desktop when I am within my home network, but can't remote in when I am away from home using my computer at work; all computers use XP Pro

So. On the off-chance that I have can make the move into Qwest territory, I can use my SpeedStream 4100?
Yes if your 4100 has the PPPoA compliant firmware.

I use or have used many of the Cabletron/Efficient Networks/Siemens devices with Qwest service. I'm currently using the 5930.

Good point on the VPI and VCI settings!

All CAP only modems are incompatible with new accounts at Qwest. The Cisco 675 (for example).

So the modem must support DMT.

Anyone else care to add some other known requirements...?
So. On the off-chance that I have can make the move into Qwest territory, I can use my SpeedStream 4100?

G.dmt modulation
VPI/VCI can be changed to 0/32 (currently 0/35)
Protocol can be changed to PPPoA (currently PPPoE)

Just curious.

Re: Qwest DSL Modem

Where may I find info on the supported modems for Qwest DSL?
The supported modems are:
Actiontec® GT701-wg
Actiontec® 1520 and 1524
Intel® PRO/DSL 3200
Intel® PRO/DSL 2200
Cisco® 675/678
Arescom® NetDSL 800
Accton® DSL 1000

Of these I think they are primarily only distributing the Actiontec® GT701.

If you would like to see a list of all of the modems that people have gotten to work with Qwest DSL you can find that here: »US West/Qwest DSL »What end-user devices work with Qwest ADSL?

Yes, many people do this as I have with my past Linksys and my current D-Link 4300 by doing DMZing

Where may I find info on the supported modems for Qwest DSL?

The trick is to make sure that you can update the VPI and VCI settings. If I remember correctly, it's 32 and 0 for Qwest.
Close. It's VPI 0, VCI 32, with a few exceptions for certain ISPs- for AOL (eww) customers it's 0.35; can't remember if Earthlink is the same or not. Probably 99% of Qwest ADSL customers are going to be set at 0.32 though.
