| [Info] A3AB.SYS Crashing
I was getting the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) from A3AB.SYS every time I was downloading a "Large" (around a Gig or more) file when I called D-Link they told me to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them just as I thought it worked boom a crash.
So this is what I did to slove this problem 1.)Remove Card 2.)Reboot in Safe mode Uninstall the Card 3.)Reboot and I ran a regcleaner (EasyCleaner 2.0) 4.)Installed D-Link Drivers and Shut Down Computer 5.)Reinstalled the Card Started back up the Computer
I've been downloading the fril now for a few houres way past the normal amount of time I could normaly Download I will edit this post to let you know after I let it download all night just to make shure. |

| I noticed this happening randomly ever since I started using atheros drivers version 4 or higher.. Never noticed it using version 3..
I also noticed that a few times after this blue screen, there was no way I could connect to the router again until i rebooted the router itself.. |

| reply to KillerFreak hello! this is my first post (and first visit, actually!) to this forum, and I'm pleased that I'm not the only one going through this truly frustrating experience! I'm disappointed, however, that there doesn't seem to be a fix!
I have a DI-624 router and a DWL-G520 pci card. I've been getting the BSOD randomly (though not very frequently, maybe once or twice a week at most) and it always seems to happen when I have a lot of windows open, am downloading a lot of stuff, or am just generaly using my connection more than normal.
I've done the same steps as KillerFreak, I even installed the card into a new PCI slot. it still crashes randomly as described above. The funny thing is my laptop ALSO crashes randomly, and that has a DWL G650! this one doesn't crash as often (maybe once a month or less), and usually in the same conditions. I should also mention that the laptop crashed once at my university! same type of blue screen, same device driver a3ab.sys! what's up with that!!
and yes, EVERY TIME it happens, I cannot reconnect to the internet until I unplug and reconnect the router! funny thing is though the pc connected (wired) to the router doesn't ever lose its connection!! what gives!!
now, having read through the forums, I've seen a few others having similar problems to this talk about "changing to the atheros drivers". what does that mean, does it work, and where do I get them?
killerfreak are you still having this problem?
thanks for your help fellas! -SelArom |

| I had the same problem with my DWL-G520, first I tried the atheros drivers I found at this link(I think): »www.phoenixnetworks.net/atheros.php
That worked fine, but then I changed to a newer version of G520 drivers than I was using, which also has worked fine for 2 months or so. So if you don't already have the latest, just try updgrading from the D-Link site. |

If you're using the Atheros/D-Link utility to manage the card, try switching to Windows Wireless Zero Config and see if the problem happens there. There's a 50-50 chance that will avoid the issue. -- Robb Topolski -= http://www.funchords.com/ =- Hillsboro, Oregon USA ... Did you wake up grouchy this morning or did you let her sleep in? ... |

| haha 50/50 -- either it will or it won't
but seriously tho, I am using the Windows Config not the dlink one... there was an ACS.bat file I took out of the startup, should I put that back in? what does it do? I have it on my laptop which crashes WAAAAY less... hmmmm
anyway I'm thinkin of just chucking the whole system and getting netgear

| I said 50/50 because there's a config/control side and there's a data pushing side. If it was a config/control issue, changing the configuration method might work around it. If it's a data issue, changing the config method won't help.
That's my lie and I'm sticking to it.
said by SelArom :... there was an ACS.bat file I took out of the startup, should I put that back in? I'm not familiar with that one, and I have these cards. Can you right click on that and pick "edit" ... then copy and paste the contents here? -- Robb Topolski -= http://www.funchords.com/ =- Hillsboro, Oregon USA ... | reply to KillerFreak I think my girlfriends laptop has an ACS.exe, I never ran across a bat file but I assume it's something similar. I ran a search about it when I was getting rid of spyware to make sure it was a legit file. Here's the description:
Process File: ACS or ACS.exe Process Name: Atheros Wireless LAN
Description: ACS.exe is a process installed alongside Atheros Wireless LAN and provides additional configuration options for these devices. This program is non-essential process to the running of the system, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems. |

| reply to funchords hey sorry I took so long to reply, the only thing in the acs.bat file is one line:
c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\acs.exe -h
damn dlink crap I was uninstalling Vistual Studio 2005 Beta 2 and it crashed right in the middle of it!! Now my registry is F*CKED and I can't install the new Express editions... thanks alot dlink, now I have to reformat my PC AGAIN THANKS TO YOU...
and I told them that too.. guess what their response was: "Please use a registry editing tool (several free tools are available over internet) and fix the registry entries and then please retry the steps as given in the previous email to reinstall the adapter."
So I have to go in and fix the crap they caused to be f*cked up... and this after I had explicitly stated that I had ALREADY REINSTALLED THE FRIGGIN ADAPTER I AM GETTING NETGEAR!!

Heh, I'm reformatting today too (not because of D-Link, though), so I feel your pain.
Have you tried System Restore (Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore)? You might have a recent registry there. Then reinstall VS 2005, then uninstall it.
Disable the adapter while you do this. -- Robb Topolski -= http://www.funchords.com/ =- Hillsboro, Oregon USA ... Did you wake up grouchy this morning or did you let her sleep in? ... |

The next time this happens, can you post the data on the Blue Screen? |

| reply to KillerFreak I'm getting it too. About 1-2 times a week. This time I took a photo of the screen (heh, low tech screen capture).
Here it is.
I checked on drivers and I have the latest for my card (DWL-G520) version 4.0.0.1414.
It's starting to get annoying. I've had it crash on me in the middle of doing something not even web related (right before I was at a save point too). |

Edit: Oh yeah. Before my first post I had the BSOD. That finally caused me to start looking. Between it and this one it happened again. |
