| [News] Is Comcast coming?
I don't know about other Insight areas, but i have been seeing a lot of "Comcastic" commercials on tv around here. Just wondering if Comcast is taking over things in Louisville. If not, why are they advertising here? It gets pretty annoying, kind of like the Boston Market and IHOP commercials i keep seeing when neither are ANYWHERE near here. (I loved Boston Market when they were here and are ticked they are gone BTW ).

| Boston Market - yuck - the one in Sarasota, FL was the pits and bad service. Haven't been to an IHOP in years. Although the rumor persist that they are coming to Springfield, IL.
As for the Comcast is taking over Insight argument. This has been rumored for years as well. We have seen some areas switch do to agreements expiring. That happened earlier this year or was that last year?
Insight has been taken private. So it's not likely we'll see any information publicly. Until any such deal has taken place.
Could it occur? Yes. Is it likely? In some regards - yes. Is consolidation something that is happening all around the communications and technology sector? You bet it is. Many major deals have just gone down this week. And several that have been ongoing are getting close to being finalized.
I do agree that it is annoying seeing commercials on local channels for places you can't frequent. We had Boston Market commercials on one station all the time. And I think the closest one ( if it exist ) may be in Champaign. At least the station that ran the ads served that market.:) Even though it's office and facilities are in Springfield.
These most likely are just national ads being shown in the local area. -- Test Your Security Cable Diagnostics My BLOG ZoneAlarm Help |

| reply to raedwa01 I've even had unsubstantiated rumors of techs on calls to people's home stating comcast is coming in soon but you know how that goes.
The other rumor I've heard is that Comcast is waiting for Louisville to be converted from POTS to VOIP before they take over because they dont want to deal with the FCC regulations that go along with POTS. Again that's just rumor.
I do know for a fact that a good portion of the support center here in KY are all Temps that are getting no offers to be actual insight employees. If that doesnt scream company about to be taken over I dont know what does. |

| reply to raedwa01 Have also seen the Comcast commercial on a local tv station in Lexington Kentucky. Comcast already owns 50% of the Lexington cable system. And Insight owns the other 50%. I think that the ownership agreement expires on December 31, 2005. Comcast might take over the Lexington cable system in 2006. Or it could just remain as Insight. Anyone have any detailed information on Comcast taking over the Lexington cable system? |

1 edit | If you look @ the Company profile of Comcast Inc. it looks as is they are going to be selling properties and not aquiring them....... From what i see i believe Comcast Inc. will be selling some of the smaller properties and looking on building more properties in illinois.......... But i am just a little fish trying to get a worm. |

| reply to raedwa01 They are also showing up in Time Warner markets too. Looks like they bought a national bit of ad space like the satellite people do.

I agree with that, but comcast has its issues as well, search back a year ago and look at the people getting nastygrams from comcast over using to much bandwidth. I don't remember seeing a lot of that here. For me switching back to comcast would have zero affect in the department, though I doubt that is going to happen here regardless. |

| I could be way off base with this but I have seen these commercials as well and I believe they were "network" commercials and not local commercials. If this is the case, then insight has no control over what is being shown. Just like the IHOP commercials on TBS....that is a network commercial. I believe I saw the Comcast commercial on Fox...but I am not sure.
Just a thought!!! |

That is a tragedy! They closed one of out 2 White Castles a year ago or so and I wanted to cry, it was the one nearest me, though I think I have lost some weight. |

Their ads alone make me never want to use them. |

| reply to raedwa01 All I can say is that in, now 11 years, I have been through 1 buyout, 1 trade and 2 mergers. The consolidation business was big!
Adelphia halted everything when they stole from the kitty. Now financial agencies are opening up for the big dogs to start consolidating again. Look for Comcast, Time Warner, Cox and maybe a few of the bigger investment companies to come out on top in the next couple of years. Mom and Pops companies and some of the smaller companies (Insight) will likely be snatched up and tied into clusters to assist these big guys in owning the world. MU HA HA HA.
Can anyone say more money, bigger company....faster downloads....how bout 8mb.....yes. |

| reply to raedwa01 Just to add fuel to the fire.
A co-worker of mine called the comcast service number when these ads started. At taht time ti stated "Sorry we do not service your area."
He called again last night and claims it stated "We do not YET service your area but look forward to doing so in the near future."
I havent called yet to verify, but he lives not far from the Insight call center here in Louisville.
Just thought I would throw that out there. |

| I wouldn't put much stock in responses acquired from Comcast Service numbers. Being a Comcast user - you just gotta trust me on that one!
As for the advertisements - Keep in mind that the majority of Hardin County (and surrounding areas) to your South is Comcast territory. Unlike many areas, we have an alternative catv provider in our community that has eroded Comcast's market share (more so in cable tv offerings than broadband). I really think those ad's are targeted for our area. Just my unprofessional opinion though. |

it speculates that with Insight going private it's just leverage better positioning for a buy out. If i'm reading it correctly, it says Insight could be either bought out or Comcast could pull their shares and leave insight at about 600K subs total. My question is, who would be the 600k left? |

Klownin3468 Premium join:2004-09-06 Cicero, IN | I talked to yet another comcast tech and he stated that insight will be dissolved as of Jan. 1, so figure a six month freeze and i would guess by july Insight will be no more...................... |
