[News] Is Comcast coming?

I don't know about other Insight areas, but i have been seeing a lot of "Comcastic" commercials on tv around here. Just wondering if Comcast is taking over things in Louisville. If not, why are they advertising here? It gets pretty annoying, kind of like the Boston Market and IHOP commercials i keep seeing when neither are ANYWHERE near here. (I loved Boston Market when they were here and are ticked they are gone BTW ).

Re: [News] Is Comcast coming?

Boston Market - yuck - the one in Sarasota, FL was the pits and bad service. Haven't been to an IHOP in years. Although the rumor persist that they are coming to Springfield, IL.

As for the Comcast is taking over Insight argument. This has been rumored for years as well. We have seen some areas switch do to agreements expiring. That happened earlier this year or was that last year?

Insight has been taken private. So it's not likely we'll see any information publicly. Until any such deal has taken place.

Could it occur? Yes. Is it likely? In some regards - yes. Is consolidation something that is happening all around the communications and technology sector? You bet it is. Many major deals have just gone down this week. And several that have been ongoing are getting close to being finalized.

I do agree that it is annoying seeing commercials on local channels for places you can't frequent. We had Boston Market commercials on one station all the time. And I think the closest one ( if it exist ) may be in Champaign. At least the station that ran the ads served that market.:) Even though it's office and facilities are in Springfield.

These most likely are just national ads being shown in the local area.

I've even had unsubstantiated rumors of techs on calls to people's home stating comcast is coming in soon but you know how that goes.

The other rumor I've heard is that Comcast is waiting for Louisville to be converted from POTS to VOIP before they take over because they dont want to deal with the FCC regulations that go along with POTS. Again that's just rumor.

I do know for a fact that a good portion of the support center here in KY are all Temps that are getting no offers to be actual insight employees. If that doesnt scream company about to be taken over I dont know what does.

Comcast provided the POTS to Insight for Louisville, Lexington, and Evansville until January 1 of 2005; before selling the switches to Insight. They also have another POTS switch in Detroit. The VOIP conversion will be a while out, as most VOIP switches are junk, but this is coming from a POTS switch tech.

cable info

@webtv.net

Have also seen the Comcast commercial on a local tv station in Lexington Kentucky. Comcast already owns 50% of the Lexington cable system. And Insight owns the other 50%. I think that the ownership agreement expires on December 31, 2005. Comcast might take over the Lexington cable system in 2006. Or it could just remain as Insight. Anyone have any detailed information on Comcast taking over the Lexington cable system?

Re: [News] Is Comcast coming?

If you look @ the Company profile of Comcast Inc. it looks as is they are going to be selling properties and not aquiring them....... From what i see i believe Comcast Inc. will be selling some of the smaller properties and looking on building more properties in illinois.......... But i am just a little fish trying to get a worm.

Re: [News] Is Comcast coming?

I am an Insight employee. 5-10yrs exp. I read one of your earlier forums regarding comcast service. In the past 2 yrs I have seen Insight's service go into the toliet. We are now using contractors to do Installs. Big Mistake. We might as well invite Installers from Dish and Direct Tv to work in our system. Both groups provide the same poor quality work, and treat customers like crap.

With today being January 1st, The agreement between Insight/Comcast is done I was wondering if you had any new information regarding the Insight/Comcast deal. The company is not talking, and since we have gone private we are not going to hear from them. Personally It really bothers me, that they don't respect us enough to keep us informed as to what is coming. But that seems to be right in line with the way Comcast thinks. We seem to be adopting alot of Comcast's bad business traits. Rule #1 Bigger is better. Rule #2 Provide Customer service as long as it doesn't conflict with Rule #1

If you have any info, please send to k4kaster@yahoo.com
Hope you have a prosperous 2006.

I don't think anyone would deny that Insight is pleased to be using contractors. A contractor is considerably cheaper on the bottom line than a full-time employee.

Insight sent a contractor to our home to fix some long-standing cable problems, including the installation of an amplifier. He was professional and the most courteous "cable guy" I've ever encountered. Not sure they're all that good though.

No the "contract" or "agreement" between Comcast and Insight is not up on the 1st. The contract just says that either Insight or Comcast can opt to release themselves from the remaining term of the contract. This could not be done any sooner than Jan 1, 2006 per the contract. For all anyone knows, and no one does till one or the other jumps, what is going to happen.

If Comcast does pull the trigger Insight has stated already that they will opt for the 6 month extension where neither parties can talk about the proposal, a cooling off period of sorts. Then after the six months is over they come to the table to hammer any details out and that is only if Comcast says they are done. Insight has already stated that they have no intention of releasing themselves from the contract that it will have to be Comcast doing it and Comcast can do it Tuesday or they could do it a year from now.

They are also showing up in Time Warner markets too. Looks like they bought a national bit of ad space like the satellite people do.

I agree with that, but comcast has its issues as well, search back a year ago and look at the people getting nastygrams from comcast over using to much bandwidth. I don't remember seeing a lot of that here. For me switching back to comcast would have zero affect in the department, though I doubt that is going to happen here regardless.

Re: [News] Is Comcast coming?

I could be way off base with this but I have seen these commercials as well and I believe they were "network" commercials and not local commercials. If this is the case, then insight has no control over what is being shown. Just like the IHOP commercials on TBS....that is a network commercial. I believe I saw the Comcast commercial on Fox...but I am not sure.

Just a thought!!!

All I can say is that in, now 11 years, I have been through 1 buyout, 1 trade and 2 mergers. The consolidation business was big!

Adelphia halted everything when they stole from the kitty. Now financial agencies are opening up for the big dogs to start consolidating again. Look for Comcast, Time Warner, Cox and maybe a few of the bigger investment companies to come out on top in the next couple of years. Mom and Pops companies and some of the smaller companies (Insight) will likely be snatched up and tied into clusters to assist these big guys in owning the world. MU HA HA HA.

Can anyone say more money, bigger company....faster downloads....how bout 8mb.....yes.

Just to add fuel to the fire.

A co-worker of mine called the comcast service number when these ads started. At taht time ti stated "Sorry we do not service your area."

He called again last night and claims it stated "We do not YET service your area but look forward to doing so in the near future."

I havent called yet to verify, but he lives not far from the Insight call center here in Louisville.

Just thought I would throw that out there.

Re: [News] Is Comcast coming?

I wouldn't put much stock in responses acquired from Comcast Service numbers. Being a Comcast user - you just gotta trust me on that one!

As for the advertisements - Keep in mind that the majority of Hardin County (and surrounding areas) to your South is Comcast territory. Unlike many areas, we have an alternative catv provider in our community that has eroded Comcast's market share (more so in cable tv offerings than broadband). I really think those ad's are targeted for our area. Just my unprofessional opinion though.

I found this link:

it speculates that with Insight going private it's just leverage better positioning for a buy out. If i'm reading it correctly, it says Insight could be either bought out or Comcast could pull their shares and leave insight at about 600K subs total. My question is, who would be the 600k left?

Re: [News] Is Comcast coming?

I live in Washington Indiana...(South Western Indiana) and I currently have Charter Communications. They have been my provider for about 10 years. When they came in they upgraded the whole town to fiber optic cable before some of the largeer cities around me even were upgraded. Now they are reorganizing the company....and selling off their rural assets. The area I live in is one of those areas. I figured Insight would probably buy the services because they provide services in Evansville which is about 50 miles south of me and in other towns in my area. Then I heard about the Comcast situation. I was recently down at my brothers house in Jeffersonville Indiana near Louisville. We went to a hh Gregg store in a nearby town and the sales person told me that he heard Comcast was buying Insight. I am wondering if Comcast does buy Insight if Comcast will buy the Charter services in my area. Also I have been seeing a lot if Comcastic commercials lately too...And they don't provide any services any where near where I live...

Re: [News] Is Comcast coming?

Consolidation isn't unheard of - but we have been hearing this speculation for years. Then again taking the company private could be the way for a limited number of people to maximize their profit from such a sale. These two companies have had what seems to be a cozy relationship in the past. But I would have thought that a sale would have taken place by now if it was in the works.

Kinda funny that they just started this whole campaign about being in the community and making things better, using the argument that they're not a huge company blahblah.

Either way, for most regions things probably wont change much, since even IF insight get bought out, the buying party still has the monopoly in many areas.

Re: [News] Is Comcast coming?

That's funny because the previous incarnation of the power company here in Evansville IN (Sigeco) put out a videotape called "smaller is better" quite a while back. Now they are long gone...replaced by the demonic corporation known as Vectren. So much for "smaller is better", huh?

just make things more afforable that is all I ask. Why is it that for plus service you have to pay 90% of your regular service to get 2down and 128 more up! That is rape no matter how you look at it. Might as well bend over and pass them the soap

well, i'd like some more stratified options. If they'd offer 2 down 256 up for like $25 i'd switch in a heartbeat. 4/384 is waay more then i need. the only reason i have cable is b/c DSL is no option. (no installed phone line)
