Re: [News] Is Comcast coming?

I just wish they would hurry up and announce something either way.

Kinda funny that they just started this whole campaign about being in the community and making things better, using the argument that they're not a huge company blahblah.

Either way, for most regions things probably wont change much, since even IF insight get bought out, the buying party still has the monopoly in many areas.

just make things more afforable that is all I ask. Why is it that for plus service you have to pay 90% of your regular service to get 2down and 128 more up! That is rape no matter how you look at it. Might as well bend over and pass them the soap

Just to stir the pot a bit more...I saw a Comcast truck in Champaign this past week...Dunno if this person was sub-contracted for a bit and just drives around with "Comcast" all over his truck or what, LOL.

well, i'd like some more stratified options. If they'd offer 2 down 256 up for like $25 i'd switch in a heartbeat. 4/384 is waay more then i need. the only reason i have cable is b/c DSL is no option. (no installed phone line)

A little birdie told me to day that the Comcast/Insight Deal will not be a full buy out but just a shift in different properties.......... Meaning that some properties that are now insight are going to be Comcast, and so and so forth

More fuel to the fire...

I've been seeing SBC trucks with big spools of thick orange wire. I couldn't get a good look, but they were doing some digging over by the train tracks northwest of downtown champaign.

I was watching the local ABC channel last night, and I saw 2 Comcast commercials. I have never seen a comcast commercial b4 and I watch alot of TV.

I wish they'd just let us know what's going on.

They need to let someone know something soon. Insight is already in trouble with the local council here for not notifying them of the Carlyle Group buyout earlier this year as it is.

insight going private has nothing to do with your local council, Your Local town council does not have to be notified, they only have to be notified if insight sells to another cable company and even then they will not need any type of approval

Actually with the local agree ment here, if more than 10% of the shares change hands, even going private, the city council has to be notified.

That's why they are in trouble here.

A little competition is osme of these areas definitely couldn't hurt. It would be nice to see if the competition would help drive down prices.

Richard you are unlikely to see Comcast in direct competition in you area, unless they come in buy right to run there own network. Pretty much you are going to be limited to 1 telco and one Cableco in an area, unless yo are very lucky.

That just doesn't seem fair to me. How is a monopoly on the area right? It doesn't serve the customer well at all.

I agree, unfortunatly very few areas have more than one cable company. The only competition for internet is via DSL, Wireless or Sat.

With any luck, there will be increased competition moving forward. If some companies move into areas to compete, it can only help the consumer.
