Well, is the rumor true Insight to become Comcast in 2006? -- low cost and fast speed is what customers want in broadband |

| reply to Klownin3468 I am an Insight employee. 5-10yrs exp. I read one of your earlier forums regarding comcast service. In the past 2 yrs I have seen Insight's service go into the toliet. We are now using contractors to do Installs. Big Mistake. We might as well invite Installers from Dish and Direct Tv to work in our system. Both groups provide the same poor quality work, and treat customers like crap.
With today being January 1st, The agreement between Insight/Comcast is done I was wondering if you had any new information regarding the Insight/Comcast deal. The company is not talking, and since we have gone private we are not going to hear from them. Personally It really bothers me, that they don't respect us enough to keep us informed as to what is coming. But that seems to be right in line with the way Comcast thinks. We seem to be adopting alot of Comcast's bad business traits. Rule #1 Bigger is better. Rule #2 Provide Customer service as long as it doesn't conflict with Rule #1
If you have any info, please send to k4kaster@yahoo.com Hope you have a prosperous 2006. |

I don't think anyone would deny that Insight is pleased to be using contractors. The contract just says that either Insight or Comcast can opt to release themselves from the remaining term of the contract. This could not be done any sooner than Jan 1, 2006 per the contract. For all anyone knows, and no one does till one or the other jumps, what is going to happen.
If Comcast does pull the trigger Insight has stated already that they will opt for the 6 month extension where neither parties can talk about the proposal, a cooling off period of sorts. Then after the six months is over they come to the table to hammer any details out and that is only if Comcast says they are done. Insight has already stated that they have no intention of releasing themselves from the contract that it will have to be Comcast doing it and Comcast can do it Tuesday or they could do it a year from now.

1 edit | reply to tech327 said by tech327 :The other rumor I've heard is that Comcast is waiting for Louisville to be converted from POTS to VOIP before they take over because they dont want to deal with the FCC regulations that go along with POTS. Again that's just rumor. Comcast provided the POTS to Insight for Louisville, Lexington, and Evansville until January 1 of 2005; before selling the switches to Insight. They also have another POTS switch in Detroit. The VOIP conversion will be a while out, as most VOIP switches are junk, but this is coming from a POTS switch tech. |

| reply to raedwa01 I see Comcast opting out, with all the money Insight is putting into Commercial services and VOIP. I can't see Comcast taking on that extra debt and minimal profit, for a company that is not a legitimate "threat" to them.
I don't know a thing about the "business" part of it though, as I am just a lowly tech. |

| reply to Evil_Empire your kiding right comcast already owns 50% of insight all they do by say they want insight is by the other 50% or insight will have to spin the comcast owned markets to comcast or try and buy them and I see insight not having the cash flow for that.
remember back in march comcast said they would pull the trigger in jan |

| reply to raedwa01 here a little excerpt of a artical
The worst-case scenario for Insight: Comcast decides to break up the partnership, take its half of the business and go home, leaving Insight with just 650,000 subscribers. In a world where anything less than 5 million subscribers is considered small, that would make Insight tiny.
But the bleeding wouldn't stop there. Insight buys programming through Comcast at the same substantial discounts networks accord to the largest cable operator, 10% to 20% less than smaller operators pay. Since programming accounts for 43% of Insight's expenses, separating from Comcast could leave Insight both dramatically reduced in size and less profitable.
LIKELY OUTCOME There's another, more likely outcome: Comcast bids for all of Insight. That could be an excellent result for Insight or an underwhelming one, depending on the price.
I'd bet on the latter, because the threat of Plan A will give Brian Roberts plenty of leverage in Plan B to squeeze the numbers.
And then there's a third way (my personal favorite) for all of this to turn out: Insight becomes a chip in the negotiations between Comcast and Time Warner. Comcast owns 20% of Time Warner Cable but is under FCC order to exit. One of the reasons Comcast and Time Warner are jointly bidding for Adelphia is to grease the unwinding of Comcast's stake.
Insight's Ohio systems are a particularly nice fit with Time Warner's existing operations, so it could become part of a bigger trade if Comcast wants to go that route.
Maybe everyone will walk away happy from the impending Insight-Comcast face-off. But it's a reminder to all executives entering into partnerships: Breakups can be painful. |
