Just saw a post about increase for renewals. Looking to make a change.
You're looking for a change because of the increase in prices for NAV subscription renewal? You'll be disappointed I think, all the products recommended so far cost even more (KAV) or the product/renewal prices are almost the same (NOD32).
Kaspersky cost the same as Norton in the US:»www.kaspersky.com/store?ipcountry=US, the renewal price is a 30% discount, this includes both signatures & productupgrades (eg version 5.0 to Kaspersky 2006).:)

Renewal for NAV costs 29,99 an upgrade to or a new license for NAV 2006 39,99 (supposed to include signature and product updates too).

So given the prices of the products most user here would call "competitor", I don't see what the problem with the prices Symantec charges is...

You can get Kaspersky cheaper from ICE Systems, the USA official distributor. Plus, you get ICE support as well as Kaspersky support. ICE is the way to go! $37.42 for KAV 2005 and you can upgrade for free to 2006. I am no fan at all of KAV 2005 and would be recommending the older, but superior, KAV 4.5 (which is still available for purchase from ICE Systems) except for the fact that KAV 2006 will be out soon so you won't have 2005 very long and it has been improved since I had it when it first came out.

Well, one glaring difference is that Symantec has no support basically. KAV has excellent support both from ICE Systems for USA customers and from KAV itself ...phone and email and no charge like the outrageous charge Symantec has for phone support and Symantec's email support is so poor that there is really no support. (However, Symantec does have an excellent knowledge base on their redesigned web site and for the first time it is easy to use. So, if you like self help then finally now Symantec's self help is excellent which was never the case until this overhaul of the knowledge base). Not to mention Symantec's DRM. Kaspersky, NOD32 and Bit Defender, all outstanding and none of them have DRM.

In my option the last AV program I would buy is NAV. Bloated (resource HOG), slow and when the subscription is about to run out, 1 month before it really runs out, it pops up the Renew Now box ALL THE F-ING TIME. That box alone made me switch to AVG.

I tried AVG for a while (and liked it) but kept getting "offline" messages - my system would think it was no longer connected to the router and I'd have to click the "try again" button...
