Re: Security Update for IE(KB896688)

Verifying that the Update Has Been Applied

1. Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer

To verify that a security update has been applied to an affected system, you can use the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) tool.

2. Registry Key Verification

You may also be able to verify the files that this security update has installed by reviewing the following registry keys.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP3\KB896688\Filelist

There was a minor revision made to that update (v1.1) on Oct. 12th. »Microsoft Security Bulletin Minor Revisions

I installed the following security update from microsoft on Tues(10/11/05): "Cumulative Security Update for IE for WindowsXP (KB896688)" On wednesday the following day, I opened Microsoft Update to see if I had installed all of the Critical/High Priorty Updates available, and Microsoft Update showed that I needed to install KB896688 again. I opened the Control Panel and looked into the add/remove programs and it is showing that KB896688 is already installed. On thursday the same thing happened and also today. I'm guessing Microsoft Update is just missing that I already have this update installed and I don't need to reinstall it if it is showing it is already on my system. Anyone else having this problem?
