| How to Set Up P-330W in Client + Bridge Mode?
I tried this a few days ago and the router froze (or whatever). Got my replacement from ZyXEL today and I want to get it right this time. I guess I'm thick and don't get the concept, so I'd like a little help. I'm sure many of you are tired of reading about this, but please bear with me for a bit longer.
I want to use the P-330W in client + bridge mode to connect an Escient Fireball Music Server to my existing wireless network. The Fireball ethernet port will be connected to a Lan port on the P-330W so it can access the Internet. Here's what I think I should do:
1. WAN Interface Setup screen. Ignore these settings?
2. Operation Mode screen. Select Bridge mode.
3. LAN Interface Setup, page 41. Change DHCP to Disabled?
4. Wireless Basic Settings, page 48. Set Mode to Client? I know I enter my router SSID and channel. Do I check Disable Access Point?
I haven't done anything to the router yet. Where do I enter the Static IP address for the P-330W? The gateway address? DNS server address? Also, in the Fireball do I set it to Dynamic IP or Static IP (and then enter same addresses as on the P-330W)? Seems to me I should just set the Fireball to Dynamic IP and let the P-330W handle the rest. If I've missed anything, please feel free to fill in the blanks. Thanks. |

| I think, but I'm not sure, if you check "Disable Access Point" that will turn the radio off so you can use the unit as just a router, NO wireless. So you not check that. But that is just a guess. -- Shooter Ready--Stand By BEEP ******** |

| reply to palerider No one knows how to do this? Read the User's Guide but that wasn't much help. This must be more difficult than I thought. If there is a simple, step-by-step way to set this up, I'd really like to know about it. So far, Tech support hasn't been much help. Guess I need to get to the right guy. |

| Make sure SSID broadcast is on in your other router/access point Turn off the DHCP server (may not be necessary but cant hurt anything). Set its LAN address to a non conflicting IP address on the same subnet as your router. Set its SSID to the same as your router Set its WPA key to be the same as the router Set it to bridge mode Set it to client mode You do not want to disable the access point. Go into site survey Select your site/SSID Click on connect. Once it has successfully connected it will automatically reconnect when you turn its power on. -- Jim Anderson |

| reply to palerider Aha! The main man to the rescue yet again. Thank you, Jim. I did, in fact, miss a step. As I recall from another post, I need to give the P-330W a static IP address on the same subnet as my router, correct? My DHCP server address range right now is 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.32, so I assume I should use 192.168.0.33 for the P-330W?
Bridge mode is set on the Operation Mode page and Client is set on the LAN Setup page? WPA security I have down pat.
As for the Fireball, should I set it to Dynamic IP or Static IP (and use the same address as the P-330W)?
Thanks once again for bailing me out! Are you sure you don't work for ZyXEL? |

| With that DHCP range you can use any IP address between 192.168.0.33 and 192.168.0.254 for the 330W Bridge is set on operation mode page Client is set on wireless basic settings The device connecting to the P330W can not use the same IP address as the 330W. It can use either dynamic or static as long as the address doesnt conflict. -- Jim Anderson |

| reply to palerider Problem solved! I actually made 2 mistakes on a previous try. I didn't set Bridge AND Client mode, chose Client only. Second, I set up the Fireball with a Static IP address and used the same address as the P-330W. Duh! What a bonehead.
After I finished configuring the P-330W, I just set the Music Server to Dynamic IP address and it connected immediately with the correct DNS and Gateway addresses from my router. When I looked at Attached Devices on the Netgear router, it showed the Fireball with the P-330W MAC address and the next available IP address in the DHCP address range. Just as you said, the P-330W is transparent to the router. Cool!
Thanks again for your help and I apologize for being somewhat of a PIA. |
