| Blackberry (verizon) notes:
New Cache busting seems to fix the netork proxy and blackberry browser so no more "refresh clicking" required to update posts ims and forum pages.
Blackberry picks some awful fonts for textarea input boxes. They seem fixed width and huge.
mobile speed test doesn't work on this browser.
Overall it is quite usable.

| reply to justin Hi Justin, Seems that I'm getting a lot of 502 errors. This is true pre-request that you honored. (Thanks again!) Could be my setup, but seems to be something with the site. (E.g. seamless iTunes in background while trying portions of the site that give me a 502. Recent speed tests/ping tests all ok- no packet loss. Bug area (www.broadbandreports.com/forum/sitebugs) is a 502 Proxy Error no-load for me every time. Link at error page is (»bronze.dslreports.com/front/Erro···502.html) Lo/Hi Fi?- how does the site/proxy pick? -- 'The tighter the RIAA squeezes their grip, the more stars and systems will slip through their fingers.' |

| if you can load it fine with a regular desktop, without 502, then it must be your provider caching a bad page for eternity. Any way to refresh? or cache-bust it by putting in a different URL that leads to the same place like www.broadbandreports.com/forum/sitebugs?random=1234 |

| reply to justin Hmmmm...still can't get to new feature requests forum. Get a Proxy error which sends me to the 502 error page while logged in, works fine logged out. Very reproducable if interested. - Kylemaul |

1 edit | Also tried the following URL verbatim: www.broadbandreports.com/forum/features?random=1234 and get same response.
Edit: This is after clearing all local cache|cookies|history|etc. in Firefox. Got the page to load in IE but it took a very, very long time. |

justin Australian join:1999-05-28 Brooklyn, NY | I am stumped, this problem is definitely on your end for some reason. The URL is responding fast and we are not producing the proxy errors. |

| No problems at all when I'm not logged in. When logged in, the first page says 'Proxy error' with a single link to page that says this: (with BBR logo at top) -------------------------------------------------------- Page construction timeout - error 502
Sorry, your request caused a timeout. Please press BACK and re-try.
If you CONTINUE to get the error, you can either return to the home page, www.broadbandreports.com, or try again later after we have resolved the problem.
What you can do if: the entire site appears to be down.
What you can do if: you believe the problem is reproduceable and specific to your account.
A 502 error means the page you requested could was not constructed within a fixed time limit. This sometimes happens with a website search that includes one or more very commonly used words. Temporary timeouts can also occur when we are upgrading site software. -------------------------------------------------------- It apparently sorta works sometimes, but is very slow to load if I don't get the above pages. Don't worry about replying if your last post still applies. -Kyle |

justin Australian join:1999-05-28 Brooklyn, NY | This is nothing to do with text-mode problems then? anyway, I deleted your site prefs, perhaps that will fix it. |

1 edit | Appears to have worked! Thanks!
Edit: The issue only appears when the new forum style pref is set to 'text' or 'nested' The other options seem to work just fine.
Some kind of mismatch? Expected 'X' but got 'Y' thing? |

| reply to justin I have a PPC 6700 with Sprint and I've been getting a message about my device not supporting java when I try to perform a speed test. WTF??? When - and why - was THIS added? Or is it some sort of dodge to block the device from 'skewing' the mobile speed averages? |

Or is it some sort of dodge to block the device from 'skewing' the mobile speed averages? Not java, but javaSCRIPT. The mobile speed test uses a buried javascript command to invoke the browser to jump to a new URL after it receives the download. Obviously if that jump command is not supported by the browser, the speedtest cannot proceed automatically, and the results will be bogus. Prior to this check it was possible to get some kind of result by clicking a link, but the result was not useful. Try a different browser? |

| reply to justin I noticed yesterday that on my iPAQ PocketPC (Windows Mobile 2003 SE) in PocketIE that the Fav Forums view that came up was whacky. Normally you have the same view/presentation as with a regular browser where the forum heading is shown with the posts for that forum under the heading, followed by the next favorite forum heading, posts for that forum, etc.
What I saw was all the posts were at the top of the page in PocketIE followed by all the forum headers with no posts under the forum headers.
I'm about 85% sure it used to display properly. -- Tweaked your connection? | Mail Parse | Speed Converter |

GeekNJ Premium join:2000-09-23 Waldwick, NJ | reply to justin You recently added the Links section to the Posts view. Would it be possible to move it after the posts so we don't need to navigate thru them each time when on a phone?
Also, can the font be reduced link the too links? |

| reply to justin I just switched BlackBerry devices from a 7750 to a new 7130e. Now it seems every time I go to text.dslreports.com I need to log in. Almost as if it is a session cookie and not a persistent one.
I don't have the same issue with other sites and I stay logged in when I go back to them so cookies seem to be working properly on the unit.
So my question is... anything changed lately around cookies and the text version of the site? I know at least 1 thing has recently changed (see prev post in this thread) and wondering if something else was done?
I'll check to see if there's some option I missed when configuring the new unit. -- Tweaked your connection? | Mail Parse | Speed Converter |
