| ATi RMA process
Anyone know about how long does it take for ATi to process an RMA?
It took long enough, but I think they might finally accept an RMA for my craptastic 9800Pro, and personally I really don't want to be stuck for three months or so with only a 9000 to play HL2 and KOTOR on. -- VIA sux GameCube online CSS stats Fortress 4ever FLF |

odds are, they won't fix it, and will just send you a new card, that is the same or better. |

Though with only a one-year warranty, I'm afraid of keeping it or something. But then again, I would still need something for this card even if I did get a whole new system. -- VIA sux GameCube online CSS stats Fortress 4ever FLF |

| reply to C0deZer0 Chances are good for this... Think about it... you send an older card to ATI to be RMA'd.
Would it be cost effective to keep the schematics/drawings, replacement components for old technology, tooling, test capabilities for all the stuff they have built for the past 2-5 years?
I have been working in this sort of industry (RMA) for quite a while, and it is quite common from a cost standpoint to replace the card rather than put forth the time to : 1.) Debug the card to evaluate the cause of problem 2.) The cost of getting an obsolete component back into stock.
Why do you think it is easy to take XX ATI card and softmod/flash BIOS to an XY card?
They will typically use the same components on different cards... resulting in lower costs so less inventory is stored.
Think about it, take the R480 core for example:
Usually it has 16 pipes and is called an X850XT... disable 8 pipes on the core and you have an X800GT, (POWERCOLOR brand). Same core, just costs ATI less so they don't have to procure a different core. |

| reply to C0deZer0 LOL... that was used as AN EXAMPLE!
Another example can be used with the R360 core, which replaced the R350 core on the 9800 pro. R360 was used on the 9800SE (256-bit), 9800Pro, and 9800XT.
Although, if you would rather have your "craptastic" 9800 pro as opposed to something with the R480 core, I would think you would need your head examined. |

| Well, given what I've been able to deduce, the only difference between the X800 & 9800 - in terms of hardware support - is that the chip has native PCI Express support.
Sure, the R480 has more pipes, but mechanically is the same as the R350/360 core, and suffers from the same hot-running issues as the R360 does.
if it turns out to be an X850, I'll be impressed. -- VIA sux GameCube online CSS stats Fortress 4ever FLF |

| Well, that was fast. Just got the authorization. Sucks that I have to pay (yet again) more money into this card (in the sense of paying because it's borked), but maybe now I'll finally get something that won't make me wretch at the mention of the name "ATi." said by that little black kid in Angels in the Outfield : hey, it could happen

| reply to C0deZer0 Well, for what it's worth, USPS is telling me that they have delivered the card to ATi's NY facility on wednesday... but I've yet to hear a peep from ATi. Is this normal? Shouldn't they have told me that they've received my card, much like newegg does? -- VIA sux GameCube online CSS stats Fortress 4ever FLF |

| 2 to 3 weeks???
that is some serious crap. they should just send you a new card, if they want to retain your business in the future... *hint hint*
i would definately be on that phone with them if i were you.. 2 to 3 weeks is a LONG time for them to have your card. if they are THAT backed up, they need to replace your card in a reasonable amount of time. -- AMD Athlon XP 2400+ @ 2.0Ghz MSI K7N2 Delta LSR nForce 2 MSI Radeon 9600Pro - 128mb 1gb (2x512) Corsair PC3200 40gb 7200rpm Seagate Baracuda Lite-On CD-RW Aspire X-Dreamer Case Thermaltake Purepower 420w Thermaltake Silent Boost |

| reply to C0deZer0 Yea, get on the phone with them and express your dissatisfaction with them and their RMA process taking so long. Let them know how upset you are and what not. You never know, if you overplay your concern, they may get you something better... all up to you, if you don't call, expect the wait. |

| reply to Smoove910 Except they made their website such a mother@#$%^ing M.C. Escher painting that one couldn't find it very easily.
Well, I did find it.. and much to my dismay, it's just been a runaround after another. I got hung up on no less than four times trying to call them up, and just now was transferred to an answering machine!

| reply to C0deZer0 ... And now it seems that with the problems I've been having with the 9000 I've been using since then, that I'm going to have to RMA that one too!
But if I RMA that one, the only other card I have is an 8MB vanta that wouldn't even work in my board (it's keyed for AGP1/2x with 3.3v, where the nf2 is AGP4x/8x).
Now I don't have a single working card! *cries*
And the bastards hung up on me again! *files BBB complaint* -- VIA sux GameCube online CSS stats Fortress 4ever FLF |

| reply to C0deZer0 BBB filing IS a pain, and most likely will result in nothing happening. At most, you will get a copy of your complaint as well as a response from who the complaint was issued to.
The only thing this will do is keep a complaint on file for other consumers to read about... you won't be getting anything out of it except writers cramp.
Be a jerk and just put their # on speed dial and after they hang up, call back again, and again, and again, and again... |

| Well with most places, it seems the only time I ever GET a proper result IS to file with the BBB. Best buy was all about saying that it was going to take two months for me to get my 955DF back, until i filed with the BBB.
And there's no way I can RMA my 9000 without having SOMETHING that works for my computer. The Vanta won't work - not without frying either the board or itself, something I also can't afford doing. -- VIA sux GameCube online CSS stats Fortress 4ever FLF |
