Verizon lays out limitations of "unlimited" BB

Verizon lays out on their web page and in their customer agreements what "Unlimited" means. The old adage "Buyer Beware" applies. »www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/prom···iniStart
NationalAccess and BroadbandAccess data sessions may be used with wireless devices for the following purposes: (i) Internet browsing; (ii) email; and (iii) intranet access (including access to corporate intranets, email and individual productivity applications like customer relationship management, sales force and field service automation). Unlimited NationalAccess/BroadbandAccess services cannot be used (1) for uploading, downloading or streaming of movies, music or games, (2) with server devices or with host computer applications, including, but not limited to, Web camera posts or broadcasts, automatic data feeds, Voice over IP (VoIP), automated machine-to-machine connections, or peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing, or (3) as a substitute or backup for private lines or dedicated data connections.
All "Unlimited" means is that there is no SET number of minutes or data transfers attached to the plan. Those who have problems with that should take a course in marketing. Then maybe they will begin to understand the term "hyperbole".

Fine. But don't advertise it as unlimited, because any way you slice it, it isn't. Clearly there are limits.

And "Retire_Rich", can you tell me why you change your home location every-day?

Typical marketing speak, wrap a turd in foil and call it candy.

You might want to turn your attention to dictionary.com and review what unlimited means. We can both agree that in its unadulterated by marketing mits sense, it means without limits. So if there's limits to how you can use it, then it's limited, right?

If it means "use it whenever you want", then say that. If it means "use it for as many business applications as you want just don't use it for screwing around on the Internet and porn", then say it.

I think this is more an argument on abuse of service than "unlimited" usage. The 2 guys who got the letter said they are downloading games, and game updates, as well as songs from Napster. They also are using this as a dedicated Internet connection to which the letter does allude to. All of those are clearly defined in the TOS as violations.

However I do believe Verizon Wireless is misleading people a bit with their new advertising campaign of "Why use coffee hot spots when you can use us almost anywhere..."

I've had Almond Roka. That is funny, but true at the same time! You should do marketing for Hershey!

The problem I have with that letter is that it doesn't state HOW MUCH data was transferred in HOW MUCH time (just says "unusually high over an extended period").

In fact, the only numbers on the entire letter are the phone number!

Maybe your PDA phone or laptop has a worm or bot/spammer/DoS running, but how can you even start to guess unless you can compare your normal usage with the numbers they give you?

I think the solution to all this is for everyone to use multiple GB/month... then their bandwidth alarms that watch for deviation from the norm (not some set MB/GB limit) won't think a few GB/month is "unusually high" since it won't be far off the norm. If everybody demands multiple GB, then they will have to provide it or lose all their customers.

Almond Roca is made by Brown & Haley in Tacoma, WA. They also make Mountain Bars. I visit their shop and purchase the "seconds". These are improperly wrapped candies, cost about 1/3 what you pay in the store.

In the words of Homer "MMMMMMM Candy"

:D;)

...that's because the Republicans are on the run. SEC probes, ethics violations, two mismanaged wars and domestic issues bungled beyond belief...even Texas is no longer a refuge for Retire_Rich

The country is finally growing some balls and telling the neocons to F off.

I'd like to see how this works when I use it on my corporate VPN. I'm typically running several X11 sessions (some running remote desktop over X11!) across it (runs Ok on DSL), and at times have to upload/download several GB and stream data. I wouldn't pay $60 or even $80 if it couldn't be used 'unlimited' as I need it.
