| [TWC] How to disconnect? Do any of you disconnect from the internet connection when you do other activities on the computer so that your connection isn't constantly on?
I miss not being able to do that. There are times when I want to be on the computer and not the internet. But, I would rather not have an active connection while I'm doing other activities on the computer.
Also, do any of you do anything special when you shut down your PC for the night? Do you turn the modem off or do you put your firewall in lockdown?

| Re: [TWC] How to disconnect? If you have a standby button, that severs connections with the modem and the CMTS and by turning that on will suspend your internet access.
Also you can just disable the network card if you want to sever connection with the internet, or the whole network.
Theres two easy ways. | |

I seem to recall that some software firewalls (such as Zone Alarm) had an option where you could click on them in the system tray and temporarily halt all network traffic.

| Why not just unplug your ethernet cable from either the router or if you have no router then the modem? Seems to me this absolutely/positively severs your internet connection.
I don't do anything special at night other than turn off power to my computer. Since I have VoIP 800 service, I don't want to shut down my toll-free line, so I leave my modem, router and terminal adapter powered up.
