Rob AJets AFC ChampionshipPremium join:2005-01-17 Pompton Plains, NJ 2 edits | More Choice Around here! The new feature I want to see around here is more choice! Some of the new features right now are driving me crazy. Especially how news in the news ticker disappear after I click them, and how they go vertically instead of horizontally across the top, making me scroll more. Also all the text boxes popping up when I move my mouse around threads is really starting to tick me off. Lastly, having to click preview for attachments is starting to get annoying (although I can proabaly live with this). Please, all I want is choice. As in, options to turn stuff off on the forum prefs page or something! -- Spread Opera! The fast, sleek, and feature-rich browser! »opera.com

| reply to Rob A Seems like your main complaint is tool-tips, if I try to constantly preserve choices then it ends up being more complicated and buggy than windows.
Does VBB have an option to turn off mouseovers?
I could change mouseovers to just the actual subject text, rather than the table cell. Perhaps that makes them calm down a bit. |

We can already see the subject titles in the list of threads, so the mouseover wouldn't add anything there. I think the mouseovers are unique as features go, because there are users who appreciate the "instant preview" of the first few words of the post, because they like to scan the list that way. Then there are those like me who just go by the thread title and decide based on that whether to read it or not. For the second group, the mouseover obscures the next couple of thread titles and is really interfering. As I said, I think this is unique to the mouseover feature because almost all of the other features can be used or not used as one chooses, but this one can't be avoided unless you switch to FF and use the script. I still like Safari better so I don't want to have to go to FF for BBR since 90% of my time is at BBR. |

1 edit | No, you misunderstand. I mean, at the moment, the tool tip appears if your mouse sits anywhere in the cell. I can change it to show if it sits anywhere on the subject title. That is all.
As for your comment on obscuration, there is a large amount of of space after topics and if you run your mouse around, the tool tip does not even show. If you stop and wait, it does. If it does, it doesn't cover anything except for the right hand side unless you are determined to keep your mouse on the far left. Like any system I suppose people adapt to make the most out of it. The only obscuration annoyance for me anyway after a little adjustment phase was that sometimes the tool tip keeps displaying AFTER you click the link, and can look a bit strange or even cover up some text. But the timer hits and it vanishes.. |

EDIT: Oh, it may also be that Safari makes a narrower box than some others so that there are almost always 2 or 3 lines of text. |

justinAustralian join:1999-05-28 New York, NY kudos:7 | well that sucks. I can sniff safari, and change the tooltip to be maximum 30 characters.. |

Rob AJets AFC ChampionshipPremium join:2005-01-17 Pompton Plains, NJ | reply to justin Justin, it would be great if you changed it so that the tool tip only popups up when your mouse is over the link/title of thread, not the whole box.
And actually, that is not the most annoying thing right now for me. Can you please give the option for the old news ticker? When I click on a news item, it disappears. On the old horizontal one. it stayed until more news items pushed it off the ticker. I loved that, I hate how recent news disappears after I click it. -- Spread Opera! PacratOld and CrankyPremium,MVM join:2001-03-10 Cortland, OH | reply to Rob A At first, I liked it, but the more I see them, the more I've grown to really dislke them. I do think that having them pop up only when the mouse on the link itself, rather than anywhere in the cell would be a decent compromise. And for the record, they appear as much as three lines deep in IE, too (as per INTENS1 's example!) -- "...this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part." |
