Re: [General] Free VOIP West Coast DID, 100 min/mo

I'm up and running in about 24 hours. I asked for 323 (Los Angeles), but I got 415 (San Francisco). Not to hard to set up the PAP2.

I did finally get into my account (I was using the wrong password to try to log in). It doesn't show a phone number, so I submitted a ticket asking about it. I choose one from the midwest, that may be the reason why.

Dear Gatzdon,

You don't know me, so don't go trolling for a flame war.

I don't know what

Wow, a company gets hammered by the FW effect (wait until it hits SD)
means. Please speak plainly if you intend to add value to the conversation.

I am merely trying to let everyone know that dealing with this company RIGHT NOW is immensely frustrating.

THEY (not me) advertise the free promotion.
THEY sent ME an e-mail setting my expectations to hear from them in 30 minutes.
THEY post in flashing letters on their web site "Speak to a rep live right now!".
THEY staff their support team with people who barely speak the language.
THEY built a web site that leads you to select products which are, apparently, unavailable.
THEY built a system that collects your genuine info (name, address, phone #, e-mail), then when the system fouls up an order (accepting an order for an unavailable phone #), has no way to resolve the problem but to have you re-enter a new (unique!) order with some other genuine information.

So, yes, I'm pissed, because as a GENUINE prospective customer of theirs, I took them up on their promotion as a means to evaluate their service, and they caused me nothing but delay and frustration over what should have been a simple transaction.

Maybe they are getting "hammered by the FW effect", whatever that means. I suppose I should have googled on "callpacket" and "FW effect" before trying to place the order. My bad.

Anyone get a DTA 310 working

It looks like from their FAQ (page 3, question 6) that they send out DTA 310's or did at some point, or copy and pasted packet 8's faq or something.

So has anyone managed to get a DTA310 with any firmware working on this?

Thanks?
Joe

I had the same question and an employee from callpacket replied
in FW that they do not support DTA-310 anymore.

I am guessing it is because of p8 newer locked firmware.
But I am sure the voip hackers (in a good sense) here would
be able to make it work if we went back to the old firmware.

What codec is used by callpacket.com, or is there a choice possible?

I note some of the int'l rates are very low, too low to be sustainable, e.g. 1 cent for italy and spain, 2 cents for mexico.

Greyhound,

FW = fatwallet.com, a very popular deal forum. SD = slickdeals.net, another deal forum.

Several Callpacket employees have been logging onto the fatwallet forum due to the huge volume of orders that my post there generated. One employee indicated that they received 3000 new sign ups yesterday. I am not sure about that number but the post has generated over 11,000 hits on FW alone. Now that it has been cross posted onto this forum as well as slickdeals I would not deny those numbers.

I understand you expect a perfect service but be patient. If you signed up for the free account you have nothing to lose. I have a free account and it works and I can probably point you to at least another 100+ happy customers. Be patient and I'm sure you will get your account

When it says that no numbers are available, just ignore it. Select your desired area code from the list, and see if the next dropdown list has a prefix for that area code listed. If not, then try another area code. If there is a prefix, select it and continue. That's what I did last night and it worked for me. (I picked a 763 - Minnesota #). Even though it took A LOT longer than 30 minutes, and I never got an email notification with my assigned number. But I logged in this afternoon (about 17 hours after sign-up) and there was my number listed. I downloaded the Softphone and tried it - works fine inbound and outbound.

[General] Do they have Caller ID with Name?

Has anyone seen Caller ID come up with the name yet on incoming calls? Their website clearly states that name and number show up, I have not had name appear yet and all incoming calls have been from POTS lines.

Great service otherwise.

The FW and SD effect is 10,000+ people from the bargain hunting forum flooding them with new orders.

www.fatwallet.com and www.slickdeals.net

Webistes have gone down, companies have been left in ruins because of it.

Think abut $10 TV's the day after thanksgiving, now put it on the internet and shove 10,000 people into a walmart.

Hmm.. I submitted a ticket yesterday, asking about why I had no phone number. Today when I log in, there is no more ticket. They deleted it!

Looks like they have a heavy new customers volume. I signed up with callpacket in september and it took only 15 minutes to set up the service.

I registered today and asked for a 310 area code so my friends think I moved to Beverly Hills....lol
It registered me immediately and incoming and outgoing were working immediately.

I registered and had my DID the next AM by going through their chat support web app. I am curious to find out if anyone has successfully registered a Leadtek BVA8051. I keep failing.

TIA!,

.

I think CallPacket has handled the onrush of new customers quite well. I figured their service would have an outage with all the new customers testing their new lines, but I haven't noticed any so far.

Re: .

Their 888 line down or busy.
My softphone connects to a different phone number. (not specified in my account) - I also got a few voicemail messages in chineese - so someone is trying to use that account as well.
Their signup link does not work - I wanted to try to signup for another account...
