"This replaces IE View. Instead of opening a link or a page in IE, this brings IE to Firefox in the form of a new tab." - - - Can't imagine how I missed out on this one until now. Anyhooo, it seems stable on 1.5b2 or at least it's behaving for me. I think this extension is really cool. |

| reply to bcool Hello bcool,
Did you install the plugin along with the IE Tab extension?
I can find no official write up on this extension at the mirror and the only discussion seems to be in the forums.
Even searching the EM does not return a page for this extension. Is this extension fully legit?
I like to proceed with caution when installing non-sanctioned extensions. -- Fx Official Aviary v1.0.7 (20051021)__Tb Official Aviary v1.0.7 (20051021) |

bcoolPremium join:2000-08-25 The Ozarks | Hi GK,
There are volumes in the forum as you say about this extension and the installation file can be found on extensionmirror.nl which now includes the necessary plugin .dlls. The extension code itself appears to be pretty simplistic. The heart of the extension lies in the plugins which permit launching IE within Firefox. So far as I can tell there appears to be nothing nefarious going on here. I haven't a clue why this extension hasn't made it into the sanctuary. If I smell a rat, I'll revert post haste! -- "in flagrante delicto" |

1 edit | As always I knew that you would have the info.
I will grab the 2 files and install them post haste. It will be nice not to have to open IE up every time I want to use it.
Thanks
-Greg
Update* Interestingly enough IE opens in a Fx tab with only the IE Tab extension. No plugin installed so I am going to leave it out. -- Fx Official Aviary v1.0.7 (20051021)__Tb Official Aviary v1.0.7 (20051021) |

Hold everything. Now I do not know if anyone has tried to uninstall this yet using Fx v1.0.7 but I just tried as part of an extension test.
1. Used the EM to uninstall IE Tab and restarted Fx. 2. Closed Fx and deleted the XUL.mfl file and restarted Fx. 3. Opened the EM to re-enable IE View and the whole manager is not working. 4. Reinstalled Fx from backup.
Went through the process again except I uninstalled IE View first. IE Tab installed and worked fine. Uninstalled IE Tab and could not use Fx again.
Note* Removing the XUL.mfl did not cause this issue, never has before as I always remove it after uninstalling or updating an extension.
Something in uninstalling IE Tab is the issue.
Just a heads up and I would also like to know if anyone else has this happen. -- Fx Official Aviary v1.0.7 (20051021)__Tb Official Aviary v1.0.7 (20051021) |

Tab Button on Keyboard doesn't work. I guess when you use this extension the "Tab" Button on the keyboard doesn't work when the page is rendered in IE...
Small inconvenience, but why? |

Re: [Extension] IE Tab, replaces IE View I had somehow a similar experience. I installed IE-Tab without uninstalling IE-View first and upon restarting FFx, the options for IE-Tab, were the same of IE-View, so I un-installed IE-Tab and restarted FFx. Next, I tried to open IE-View options and FFx crashed, so I killed it from the task manager and re-started it and before doing anything else, I UN-Installed IE-View, restarted FFx, RE-Installed it and restarted FFx again. Wow, now IE-View is working again, but it was a not so happy experience.

Re: Hold everything. I'm sorry GK, I've been really busy at the homestead today so I haven't been keeping up. This is what I know so far (but not all from personal experience yet):
(1.) GK, when you install IE Tab using the .xpi from the link I provided, the plugin .dlls are automatically installed with the extension. After installation, the plugins folder is located in the same folder as the extension. FYI (2.) Before installing the IE Tab extension (at link I mentioned above), you must uninstall the IEView extension. (3.) After you have uninstalled the IE Tab extension, just to be safe, go into the Mozilla profile folder, extension folders and locate the {6FC13C7F-E0DB-4f3a-8974-03C45F539B74} IE Tab folder(if it still exists). Make sure after the uninstall that the Plugins folder has been deleted from this location before you launch Firefox again.
I haven't uninstalled yet so I got that to look forward to. Sorry for your woes! -- "in flagrante delicto" |

| reply to bcool No problem at all bcool I was just letting everyone know of the issues I had just in case they run into the same thing. Half the fun of trying out new extensions and themes let alone my almost daily install of Fx beta and Aviary as you know.
I did not remove the IE View as disabling it should be sufficient and do this with any one of my 59 other extensions when I install something similar.
It is a habit of mine to remove any folder after an uninstall plus cleaning out the prefs.js.
I posted a cleaned up version of my issues over at the EM.nl to see what if anything could be causing the issue that the dev. may know about. It appears the extension has been taken over by a new dev if I read the thread correctly. -- Fx Official Aviary v1.0.7 (20051022)__Tb Official Aviary v1.0.7 (20051022) |

Re: [Extension] IE Tab, replaces IE View I found a phishing type vulnerability in this extension which could be pretty serious if it takes advantage of an unpatched IE vulnerability. Who should I report it to? I have a pretty simple POC too.
Edit: Changed the word "exploit" to "vulnerability".

| reply to bcool Are you referring to IE Tab allowing a potential exploit in an opened IE tab in Fx? I could see someone eploiting Fx through an IE tab opened like a normal tab in Fx.
IE View just tells IE to open a link or page but does not allow any part of IE in Fx.
I think that is what you are talking about.. -- Fx Official Aviary v1.0.7 (20051022)__Tb Official Aviary v1.0.7 (20051022) |

You may also want to mention it to IETab developer here » forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic···f6a6b542 Yes it is because if my POC is opened in IE the correct url will be displayed in the address bar. If the POC is opened in FF and IE Tab is subsequently activated by the user the correct url is not displayed. It does change but it is of the form
chrome://ieview/content/reloaded.html?url=ORIGINAL_URL.
Switching back to the FF view redisplays the unmodified original url.
Do you have an email address for the author? I'd rather not register there just to report this. -- Get hpHOSTS! Member ASAP The Bush Era is over. The Bush Error is not. |

Well I hate to burst your bubble but I noticed this while working with some pages I am developing, one of which contains an ActiveX control which can access the local file system. It worked flawlessly in that Firefox tab.
