| Re: [modem/router] Westell 6100 / Linksys Router / Gracie -- I am in Illinois (Central IL, between Bloomington-Normal and Champaign-Urbana.) My Verizon DSL is using DHCP not PPPoE. When I did the WAN auto-detect from the Westell 6100, it responded that a DHCP server was found and a PPPoE server was not found. Also, when I followed the guide that paradisecowgirl posted for putting the 6100 into bridge mode and using DHCP on the router, it worked like a champ. Finally, nowhere on the PC, the modem or the router was I asked to put in my Verizon username/password, which further leads me believe that this is DHCP, not PPPoE.
This is a brand new Verizon DSL account. I just reached my activation date last week. Also, DSL has just recently become available in my area (within the past month or two.) So, if it's Verizon's strategy to switch from PPPoE to DHCP, that might explain it.
By the way, I'm in Le Roy Illinois, not Decatur. We recently moved. In Decatur, I had SBC DSL. Here in Le Roy, Verizon is the telco.
