For the most part, exGTE areas (which are not just in "the west") are DHCP. There are, however, a few pockets of PPPoE deployments when Verizon had thought they would switch everyone over to PPPoE -- that plan only lived long enough to confuse everyone 
(Also, I only suggested the DHCP guide after asking if his computer was doing PPPoE for him when no router was in the mix). |
