Motorola 6412 Closed Caption problem

The lower channels (2-99) that have closed captioning comes through perfect, but the closed captioning on all channels over 100 is garbled. That is, some of the letters are missing. This occurs both when watching live TV and on recorded programs.

I called Comcast, but they never heard of such a thing and said it was the fault of my TV set. I know the TV set is fine as it worked fine with the original non DVR box we had.

Any ideas from anyone?
This was also mentioned over on the Mediacom pages as well.

No it not your TV because i just got a DVR 6412 Phase 3 on monday and im having the same issue. The lower ch are fine but the upper ch is the same way you describe. I didn't call comcast since i don't use closed caption to see what they would say but im sure for someone who needs it, it gonna be a problem. I wonder how we can fix it. I mean i have a 3 month old tv so it not my TV and the DCT 6412 Phase 3 i got is new. HMM

If anyone get to find out how to fix it, please post, thanks

P.S. I'm having a tech come to my house on monday for something else but i will ask him about the Closed Caption on the DVR as well as show him so he can see it and ill report back with what he says about it.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm going to email Motorola and see what they say.
Let us know what your tech guy says.

Just a follow-up to this problem.
My Series III box bit the dust Saturday night.
Not sure why, but it just went off and kept blinking 8888.
Anyway, I went to Comcast on Sunday (gotta love Sunday hours)and turned that box in and they gave me a Series I model. After all the bad things I've heard about Series I boxes, I politely asked for a Series III box. She said that this was their newest box. I tried to let her know that I comes before III and that Motorola had a newer box, but she wouldn't back off that this was their newest and greatest box. I reluctantly took it home. The close captioning works great in all modes. Go figure. It is in an enclosed entertainment center so the fan's noise is not an issue. Will have to wait and see if we get an of the Series I problems that others have complained about.

*****UPDATE*****

Hey nodriveslow,

I had to reschedule my tech appt for 11/7, I Wont forget to ask about the closed caption deal with the DCT 6412 Phase 3 box. On you last post you said the DCT 6412 Phase 1 doesn't have the closed caption problem? That a good thing right? I'm not sure the teller at the local office is right because i though the phase 3 was the latest. Where you able to get a dual tuner again? I couldn't find posting on the Series 1 problem, do you know what they are?

Thanks

Close captioning is a good thing.
The series III box is indeed the latest box.
All 6412's are dual tuner.
The problems that I've seen regarding the Series I boxes are:
Picture Freezes
Box Freeze ups
Analog channels worse than an analog box
So far the jury is still out. I think I see a difference on channels 2-99, but my wife doesn't.
Time will tell on the others.

Is this closed-captioning problem happening on both tuners? Because on my DVR, I've had that issue with MTV and Vh-1 on Tuner 1. (The tuner that comes on when you first turn on the box.) I always watch Tuner 2 for TV watching, because of this problem. And in Philadelphia, I thought they completed the Digital Simulcast.

It was happening on both tuners.
That was one of the first things I tried.

Hi nodriveslow:

My appt for 11/7 was cancelled since comcast called me and fix what was wrong, so i wont be able to ask a tech about the DCT 6412 Phase III closed caption. But from your post above it looks like it an issue with the box since it work on the Phase 1 and 2

Sorry i couldn't help out with the tech visit.
