Installing Fedora Core.

I got all the 4 cd's needed to install Fedora Core after burning the iso.'s images using Win XP CD Writing after installing the ISO Recording V2.

Im trying to install Fedora Core on a COMPAQ PRESARIO 5BW220 which currently has Windows XP unvalidated and after the 30 days trial so it doesnt let me go past the login to Windows.

So i put the first cd and boot and windows starts up normally without detecting the cd so I tought that boot order in the BIOS was wrong so I went to the BIOS and it was in this order:

CD-ROM
FLOPPY
Hard Drive

so it was alright, it was supposed to detect the cd before booting Windows. So now im out of ideas? What can i do to install Fedora Core?

When you reboot the system does it display POST messages, or just a splash screen?

Many of the Compaq boxes I have worked with display a custom "Compaq" spash screen, which hides the POST messages. If this is the case for you, try hitting the space bar when it's displaying the logo and you should be presented with an option similar to "Press any key to boot from CD-ROM" (after the disc spins up).

It's also possible that the ISO didn't burn properly. You could test this by throwing a different bootable cd in the drive to see if it tries to boot from that.

I've been having a spate of 'CD-ROM not burning properly' lately. I use a USB connected CD-RW drive, on a Dell CSX PIII laptop, with Nero software, and I had to slow down the burning speed to 16X or less to get a good burn consistently. I've started downloading the MD5 checksum and checking it to make sure I downloaded a good ISO. I 'think' I've got a good set of 4 FC disks burned now. I've got a 1U server coming via FEdex tomorrow that FC is destined for. I can not boot this old laptop from the USB CD drive, so can't test them.

Roxio's EZ CD Creator or Nero are pretty nice (but not free). I googled around for free apps, and ran across CDBurnerXP PRO: »www.cdburnerxp.se/, might work for ya.

Win XP will burn them directly, but other than that, whatever software was bundled with your drive. Nero was bundled with mine, but EasyCDCreator is pretty simple to use. And I'm sure there are others. Maybe other people will have some better ideas. But do get the md5 program, and DL the MD5 checksum to make sure you've downloaded good ISO's. Slow down the burn speed, and do nothing on the machine while it's burning.

Google Imgburn, its free and burns ISOs pretty well, plus its pretty light.

I've burned an FC4 DVD successfully using Nero. I'm dual booting on my laptop as a result.

I know you said you were burning CD's, but I'm hoping that the fact that I successfully burned FC4's DVD ISO means that Nero can do the same for CD images.
