1 edit | [T-Mobile] CSD Fallback issue
First of all I've already reported the problem with Tech support.
Previously when you could not get a grps data connection your phone might do what is called a CSD Fallback connection, basically just like when you use your dial-up modem at home it would make a voice call then make a 9600 baud data connection to a special number which did use your minutes.
Recently CSD Fallback was disabled, and can no longer be used. If for some reason you can't get a data connection and your device does a CSD fallback data call it might give an error, or even just sit there like nothing is happening at all, using your minutes if you don't have free mobile to mobile at this time. The only reason I figured it was still a problem was that I saw 4 calls to Kansas which I didn't make, but they were made by the CSD fallback in my equipment which T-Mobile used to support, however they are unable to update my phone to get rid of the CSD settings, however they did remove a CSD option on my account for now so that hopefully solves my issue, however I cannot guarantee that fixes my issue.
So to conclude, if you want to use your T-Mobile T-Zones, or Internet while the grps data network is unavailable your equipment might attempt a call to Kansas, and use your minutes. I did make the suggestion they make this number a free number to call, just like customer service, however they had to forward this suggestion to their supervisor.
Take this information how you will, not all equipment can do a CSD Fallback, and realize until they fix this issue if your equipment does a CSD call it might use your minutes calling a Kansas number you didn't even dial. -- My hourly rates: $25 per hour. $35 per hour if you want to watch. $45 per hour if you want to help. $75 per hour if you tried to fix it, and failed. The biggest error is sitting in front of your keyboard. | | Stiofan

Once on EDGE or GPRS, if I lose connectivity it won't switch over - seems to only do this on intital connection tries. | | BlitzenZeus Burnt Out Cynic Premium,MVM join:2000-01-13 Beaverton, OR

| The only way you can tell its doing a CSD fallback on my phone is the little phone icon will appear, the one that appears when you make a voice call, but if another icon/information is blocking it you cannot tell its making a CSD call.
There is also no way to tell the difference between EDGE, and GRPS on my phone, which my phone supports both, I merely have a blink icon noting activity. -- My hourly rates: $25 per hour. $35 per hour if you want to watch. $45 per hour if you want to help. $75 per hour if you tried to fix it, and failed. | Teh first V330s released didn't have the E icon enabled. Supposedly youcan do it with a firmware upgrade but it's not worth it to me. There is supposed to be a separate CSD icon on the V series phones. To be honest it's been so long since I couldn't connect with GPRS/Edge I don't know if it still shows up. It did on my V300. The V330 should be the same but TMo disables so much you never know. | |
