Re: Currently this subject is almost a moot point.

said by David_South:

If you are Consumer DSL with Verizon.
Default provisioning is Fast packet transmission.

If you are Business DSL with Verizon.
Default provisioning is Interleaved packet transmission.

Interleaved has a heavier processing overhead.
It is designed to provided enhanced fault tolerance.
The trade off for hashing a packet, is latency in assembling the packet.

Signed,

Interleaved has been the default for residential DSL for sometime.

You readings are poor. You are lucky to be getting 3360 down.

And as it is, you don't get your full upload, not even close. It should be at 864. Do you get a lot of disconnects? Your margins are right at the point of cut off. Your attenuation indicates that you are right at the max limit for your speed. And your transmit power is pretty maxed too.

Yeah, I do get a lot of disconnects. Not sure what to do either. I was hoping that this thread might hold the answer. I had Road Runner cable before I moved and compared to what I'm dealing with now it was amazing. Until now I thought that my problems were typical of DSL service, guess I was wrong lol. Now, where to start? Any suggestions?

Test at the NID, the grey box outside the house, and see if the stats improve. If they do, you have an inside line issue. If not, you are either too far for this speed or there is a line issue that Verizon should address. I'm guessing you're too far though. Post back with your results from the NID.

I called Verizon early this morning and after spending maybe an hour with the support person, they're sending me a new modem (3 to 5 BDs). Not sure if that could actually be the problem or if that's just the standard "fix". The tech seemed more flustered than me lol. In the meantime, I'll figure out a way to test the NIC. Thanks for the help.

1 edit

NID, not NIC. NIC is your network card in your PC. NID is the box outside your house where the phone line enters. Plug your modem in there.

No Idea why it got worse today.
I posted to VZ direct and Debbie went straight to showing me how to switch to fast path, no mention on the router giving me packet loss or my trans stats. What do you guys think? Is fast path good for my pings either way?

THANKS!

Re: Need to switch between Interleave and FastPath?

How do I switch to the FastPath? I have called the Tech Support, Billing, and Sales department and none of them can help me. My averge ping is 120ms which is rediculous.

Changing to fastpath will drop your ping by about 20ms. So you're still going to be around 100ms. If the VZ Direct guys can't help you, PM me.

Better. The first ones indidcated you were on the verge of disconnect. Your current ones are far from the best, but if they hold steady, you should be ok.

The fast path has really helped web page load time, much, much snappier. My average ping went from the 120's to the 60's. So far it has been rock solid even during a thunderstorm.

You are on the ragged edge. I see by your speed you are a long way form the CO. If you don't have problems good for you. If you have problems and have to go back to Interleaved you can NEVER go back to fast path.
