Technically datapath(interleave or fastpath) is just a setting in your line card's configuration. There's no reason it should take days, It can be done instantly!
Your local switch office just doesn't "turn the switch on"; there's test needed to be done. Sure, you can switch the data path's, but would it cause more harm than good without looking at the stats, first? And not to mention, the technicians may be busy with other request, or just general maintenance around the CO.

You can't be farther from the truth. For me the phone operator couldn't find anyone who could help with setting my 2 dsl lines to fastpath, so he decides that he is going to call the CO directly. He gets a tech at the CO on the other line and tells him the numbers, then comes back to me and says he is on the line with someone and they are putting me on fastpath it will be a minute or two. I waited on hold for about 2 minutes and kept refreshing my modem. One goes to fastpath and 10 seconds later he comes back saying the first line was switched, I confirmed it. While we were talking the other line went fastpath. I thanked him for his help and hung up. So its an instant process that requires no testing of any kind.
I recommend that anyone who wants it, get the tech to call the CO directly and you will have fastpath instantly. The people in the CO seemed to be the only ones who knew what fastpath was.
