| [Streamyx] Help! ZTE ZXDSL 831 UID/PASSWD
Help!
I need the userid/password to get into http: //192.168.1.1 after resetting it to factory defaults.
The 9515 guy told me to reset modem to factory default and then call back (had to change wiring fr router to direct connection as well). Did that, called back and got another guy. This guy told me you must never do that. Well, it's done and I now need to log into the modem to regconfigure Streamyx values. Guess what? He didnt know the password! Have tried all the userid/password pairs I see here - no go. The 9515 guy also gave me abt 5 pairs after asking around. Still no go.
I thot it is 'ADSL/expert03' but this doesnt work.
Anyone knows about this 'latest' TMNet modem? Got it abt 2-3 mths back. Now have to wait until Monday before someone can visit me to fix things. Until then... help, pls, guys?
Am I mad? Fuming, man! TMNet Help Desk gave me instructions to kill my Streamyx modem!!!
Managed to persuade the olde HASE-220 to talk to the DSLAM. Luckily the tech guy did not take this unit back. Found that the HASE config has to be v specific to work with Streamyx.
So, I'd appreciate any help in getting the ZTE to sing again. Thanx in advance.

| Tried ZXDSL/ZXDSL already, no go. Upper/Lower/mixed Upper-Lower/reverse, all no go. Several times in case password was typo. No go. Any more? Modem is 2 mths old, TMNET 'brand'.
Thanx.
Alpha_Tay , at that time, it just escaped me that that button is a 'return to factory default' button. Duh! I wasnt expecting 9515 to not know password for it anyways. Got only half-hr before midnite and (I thot) 9515 will close shop by then and had to rush upstairs to bring notebook to do 'direct connection' and quickly call back. So, this Donkey happily went and press the 'reset' button. Sigh!
Anyone who wants to know how to get the HASE-220 to work with current DSLAM can PM me.

u reset to factory default mean u cant just use tmnet modified default password, i bet u can find the factory default password if u search around the web or ZTE official website. -- ...... |

| Eh ? how come Username : ADSL Password : expert03 can't work ? I've done many times reset to factory default.. but username and password still remains the same.. Look at the bottom of your modem, it should be printed June 2005 somewhere one if it's the newer batch.. this username/password should be the default already.. don't know how come cannot work.. |

| Hello all.
For the next 24hrs, call me 'Donkey'.
Yes the uid/passwd = ADSL/expert03 indeed works!
Not sure why it wasnt working that night... At the back of my mind, across the weekend, I was thinking maybe I didnt press the 'reset' button long enough and 'current settings' are still in place, hence whatever password the TMNet guy changed it to. I pressed until I saw the 'diag' light comes on.
Today, I made sure I pressed that for 20 secs, even when the 'diag' LED has already come on. ADSL/expert03 gets thru on first try.
Now, another help needed. Setting up the bugger from factory defaults. I know direct connection is VPI/VCI = 0/35, PPPoE, NAT = yes, Streamyx userid/passwd. Done.
What abt direct connection to Router? Router does PPPoE instead of ZTE. Shd Protocol be Bridging instead? NAT = yes? That's it?
I'm sorry to appear so clueless.
Thank you kiokyau and gang for all the help. Appreciate it. FYI, ZTE manufacturing date is June 2005.

I thought there is a universal standard for all these modems? |

| I thought so too. Until I had to resurrect my olde HASE-220 due to the above. The HASE allows the choice of 'what kind of DSLAM' to select. I selected 'Alcatel' in order for it to sync it's VPC with TMNet's. Not sure if your Aztech has that 'feature'. BTW, the HASE is using the Ti chipset. -- Malaysia, a Developing Nation with Third World mentality. |

1 edit | XEQtor, if you have already reset it to factory default, it should be in Bridge mode already.. means you plug another router to the modem and the router will do the login.. is that what you mean ? |

| Yeah. Since I've defaulted to factory settings, I dont know what my 'original' settings were. I'm just trying to get things back to 'original' whatever it really is.
I see that factory defaults puts the modem into a special Bridged mode. Not sure if it is as simple as this. Also, no need to set VPI/VCI? Defaults to 0/35 already?
My usage is to plug ZTE to phone line, plug Router to ZTE, Router does PPPoE and everything else. That's what the TM guy did, took it out of box, connect it up, power on, play. 9515 ppl say no need to set anything. Huh? Ya kah? Maybe firmware already has Streamyx defaults?
Due to work backlog (stupid 512kbps misscap), I dont dare risk further downtime by playing with the ZTE in live mode. Will be able to do so in another 48 hrs.
Dumbest thing I ever did in a looong time. Sigh!

You cant see connection details anymore. You can only see if PPPoE is up or down & current IP addy via the router's status screen.
In theory tho: The ZTE can be worked as a router. So, if you config your Linksys to talk to the ZTE (now in router mode) in a router-to-router config (ZTE is default gateway, Linksys Operating Mode = 'normal router'), you might be able to now talk to both. ZTE LAN IP addy = 192.168.1.1 subnet 255.255.255.0, Linksys LAN IP addy 192.168.2.1 subnet 255.255.255.0, PC's connected to Linksys has IP addy 192.168.2.x subnet 255.255.255.0. May need to turn on RIP service on both ZTE & Linksys? Not willing to try, so wont know exactly. End theory.
Based on what I can see on the ZTE (assuming all not buggy), this is one powderful 'router', can do lots of 'funny' stuffs...
kiokyau , thanx for all the help. Will now connect and whack in next 48hrs.

| i really appreciate all the opinions you guys given above. i just wonder there might be a way. i am doing perfectly now with modem which is Aztech 600E and my router Linksys. i just can't see the modem status. i might not going to config my modem to a router and connect two routers together. doesn't worth the risk since aztech is not quite a good (bridge or router)modem . thanks anyway. |
