In memoriam.

Dear ATMers, BBR members, and friends,

It's with a heavy heart that I post this.

Our fellow member, mentor, and friend, John Johanneson ( JJ See Profile) passed away Saturday.

John was diagnosed with cancer several months ago. He only told a few, and held us to secrecy as he wanted to continue here as if nothing was wrong. The fact that he managed to do so is an inspiration.

I had met John on multiple occassions at his home in Madison, WI. In person he was just like he was here, witty, smart and generous. What he didn't portray here was a love and talant for cooking, an ecclectic taste in music, and his beautiful wife and son, Lisa, and Pete.

I was in the area this past weekend, and had talked prior to John about going to see him. Things weren't going to work out, so we made tenetive plans to get together over Christmas. I'm saddened those plans will never be, but thankful I was able to know John in Better days.

Lisa says the past 5 months had been difficult, but he made the most out of them, as he said he planned to when he made us aware of the difficulties he would be facing.

The formal obituary will be posted Sunday in the Madison paper, but no public memorial service. If I hear of any sort of means for a memorial, I'll pass it along, otherwise I know John's Chartity of choice was "Second Harvest".

Goodbye, John. You'll be missed.

Tom

Goodbye, John.

Although we never met in person, I knew you and considered you a friend. There is not a person among us who could think of an unkind thing to say about you. Your charm, humor, strength and generosity are inspirations to us all.

May you rest in peace, dear friend, and reap whatever rewards are yours in eternity.

My stomach turned when I clicked this thread. Every thing that goes on here seems so trivial when I read this. So vividly I remember seeing his posts, like it was yesterday.

Good luck where ever you are, whatever you're doing.

JJ was a friend to many of us here. If he knew the answer to a problem, he gave it. He never turned away from a chance to help someone in this forum, and on DSLR in general.

He's a person I'll never forget, and always be glad that I got the opportunity to get to know. God bless him, and his family.

I can't even put my feelings into words. He was a knowledgeable, smart, and witty man, and even in old age, he loved life. Even though I didn't really know him, I can only say good things abut JJ, and I can only hope for the best for his family.

Peace be with you, JJ.

My condolences. I remember learning quite a bit from many of JJ's posts here when I first visited the site and then many times after that. He'll be missed.

RIP

On a side note, is it possible to retire his login name? I don't know what the current rules are for idle accounts, but I sure would hate to see someone else use it.

You know, it's really interesting how despite a lot of us (including myself) not personally knowing him and just knowing him by his avatar or "JJ" on the boards get upset over his death and feel as if they've lost something themselves.

I certainly feel like I've lost someone "close" - he was definitely a valued member of our community and I remember reading many of his very insightful posts. We'll certainly miss his presence around here, as no one will ever be able to replace it.

My condolences go out to all of JJ's family.
