How is someone going to use 50 Mbps of bandwidth.

Ditto.. I mean... really.

Don't get me wrong... I would take it... just not sure what I would do with it.

I can find million of ways to use that much bandwidth. Like running an FTP for your friends so you can share your Anime. Or an IRC server...

3 HD channels will consume a little more than that. It's pretty conceivable, even today that a household would want to watch 3 seperate HD channels.

If I get 4 HD tv's to replace the 4 that are being watched at this moment, what type of serivce will keep up with me ? Does anyone think with the countdown to full digital that people will replace or upgrade ALL of the tv's in the home ? What about my tv in the garage, come to think of it ! Forgot about that one ! Well, I guess I would have to have SD delivered to about 2 or 3 to keep a signal flowing....;)

This is where people get lost. My Comcast connection is not affected by the TV service(or my Digital Phone).
I lean towards that CV is the same way... TV is separate from internet. HDTV has nothing to do with what your computer gets, unless you have a HD tuner connected to it but it will still be separate.

Sure, I don't have 20-50mbps internet, but three HDTV feeds are completely doable.
There is a s#!+load of bandwidth already coming into my(our) houses over that little coax.

At 384 kb up you could net get 50 Mbps down. Remember you still have need to confirmation on the packets you receive.

Every single CV customer reading this, no matter where you live, should be FLOODING their support lines and bitching up a storm that it's not fair to offer these speeds only in areas where Verizon is a threat.

Corporate america sure is greedy.

Hmm share Anime..

Last time I checked that stuff you still have to buy.

Sharing Anime you bought = illegal.

In the future please be more responsible in saying what you're going to use your fast connection for. It's people like you that the MPAA and RIAA are pointing at when they ask for these new restricted laws and pushing this DRM at us.

And your tv over FIOS and telephone service also do not compete with the other seperate services. Tv sits on a seperate wavelength than the internet and phone services.

Like the new anolog broadcast flag, thats aimed at people that use their tv's legally. Not to mention its not illegal to download unlicensed anime. Infact the fansub groups have long had a relationship with the anime studios to stop subbing anime that has been licensed. Its only illegal when you download anime licensed in your own country. So please dont start lumping anime ( yes im a huge fan)with illegal content from the RIAA and MPAA.

Plasmas are flying off the shelves, similar to how LCD monitors have replaced CRTs on PCs over the last few years.

People may not necessarily upgrade for HDTV (a cable or satellite set top box will still work with older TVs), but decent sized LCD TVs will probably be pretty cheap soon, and everyone will want them. Especially for the smaller rooms, because that's where space is at a premium. Since the TVs will do HD it'll be somewhat of a no-brainer to want to put an HD signal there. Eventually it'll be easy with cable and CableCard.

All that said, "convergence" PCs like Windows Media Center are gaining momentum too. If backbone banwidth can become inexpensive enough, an internet based on-demand movie rental service could become popular if they can get enough bandwidth going to do HD.

Japan's had these 50+mbps connections for a long time now, what do they do with them?

Simple... They won't. Cablevision isn't offering 50mbit service for atleast 5-10 years.
