Re: Primus Canada cracking down on usage? You're a hero Tank!
So how have you figured this out? By the month? Or billing period? Despite my best efforts to keep it down, I'm gonna hit 50 gigs by the end of the week.
It's only when you have to start measuring it you realise how much bandwidth you use. God help me when baseball season starts and MLB.TV is back on...
Keep us posted! The letter clearly stated they'd nuke you and you'd have to agree to the overcharging...
The plot thickens... |
|
 | reply to Anomalous Well I am at 65gigs. Still no Phone call or Email. Internet is fine. I checked my billing for the month, still the same $27.00.
I guess we will see what will happen this week when I hit 70-80 gig mark. Untill then, Up to you if you want to go past 50 gigs. They might try to bill me for it yet. |
|
 | I'm all of 700 megs away, so may leave Mister Torrent playing with the net tonight:) If they cut me off, that'll work nicely, as it'll get me out of dealing with something I will otherwise have to do:) |
|
 | reply to Anomalous Leve it going, I really doubt there going to do anything. I would have been shut down allready. Right now I got a 2 gig file coming down I guess we will see.

 | I'm 200 megs from hitting it... WHEEEEEEE! |
|
|
|
 | Yep, I'm over as well now. Still got net...
So did they just do this to put the fear of *insert deity of choice* up us? |
|
 | reply to Anomalous They could have, I bet it was telus that was leaning on them. Look how many heavy downloaders dropped Primus after that letter. I bet Telus is happy now and Primus does not even care, If they did, I would have been shut down or have gotten some kind of warning by now. Untill Someone gets a warning them Iam not going to bother checking my Usage. Like the letter says, Phone call first before they can bill you extra. So in the mean time, Happy Torrenting |

 | reply to Anomalous I think the issue lies with uniserve who sells to primus in the west. They were likely unimpressed with the large amount going thru their system so they requested a policy change. |
|
 | reply to Anomalous Panicked today when something came in my wifes name (phone is in her name) from Primus... I nervously opened it...
And they're trying to sell me a cellphone...
Been downloading pretty much non-stop since going over. Still going strong... |

cruix join:2002-04-07 Vancouver, BC | reply to Anomalous knowing how inept the folks working at Primus are (no offence intended, its just simply a matter of fact), I wouldnt be suprised if they dont end up bugging you guys about the overusage until WELL over it has past (like a couple of months down the road). |
|
 | reply to Anomalous I hit 91gigs before it went back to 0. Nothing happen. I guess its a matter of waiting to here from the first person to get a warning. |
|
cruix join:2002-04-07 Vancouver, BC | reply to Anomalous well i guess all the people that went past 50 gigs got kicked off the net and hence no reply. either that or we'll have to wait a little longer for casulty reports. |
|
 | reply to Anomalous So far so good, As of now Iam over 50 with 15 days left to go.No email from primus or phone call. Makes you wonder. |

tumble join:2005-03-31 Vancouver, BC | I was part of the original group of people who got a warning via email a few months ago, but on the same day they claimed to disconnect me they changed their mind. Perhaps they changed their bandwidth policy after all the complaints of false advertising or maybe they'll just be billing you $3/gig extra. Primus is so disorganized, the reps are uninformed about whats going on and you're just better off with another dsl provider. |

tv99 join:2004-04-28 Port Coquitlam, BC | Bad news guys, I got a phone call from Primus about my over-usage last month and going to charge me $2xx extra. The CR said thatthere would not be any warning/call when you are over 50GB. |
|
 | reply to Anomalous holy crap! are you serious?! how much did you go over?! |
|
 | I just got a phone call from Primus.... they want to charge me $380 extra just for January!!! Absolute Bullshi1!! I never got a letter or a phone call until today! I was so pissed, I talked to the senior Dept head, and she said there is nothing they can do about it.... after 1 hr of pleading my case, she would budge, so I told her to stick her bill and ADSL up her ass!! I'm pissed!!! |
|
 | Yet on their website, they stil have this posted:
High Speed Internet with Unlimited Access Instantly online, with surfing speeds dramatically faster and far superior to traditional Dial Up speeds (up to 30 times faster); up to 1.5 Mbps downstream and 512 Kbps upstream* Surf anytime and as long as you want at a simple flat rate ... Surf on your own terms ... |
|
1 edit | Damn it! I'm already over my 50GB (~59GB) and I still have the rest of the month to deal with! We don't have to pay if they don't notify us of the cost right? |
|
 | reply to Anomalous Well today I got my email stating I was over and that I needed to contact them in regards to whether I would accept the charges:
As previously communicated in November and December 2005 via e-mail and letter, in order to continue to offer our DSL Internet service to all of our customers at a competitive rate, Primus Canada has implemented a 50GB bandwidth cap per month for DSL subscribers within British Columbia and Alberta.
As of January 31 , 2005 your account had over 100GB of usage. Additional traffic over the 50GB limit is charged at $2.95 per GB for each full and partial GB used. You will see these additional charges on your next invoice under Other Charges and Credits.
Your account will be temporarily suspended within 72 hours of this notice pending your payment confirmation of these charges by calling us at the number listed below. Please note that under the terms of the Acceptable Use Policy, Primus reserves the right to permanently disconnect your DSL account for violations of this policy.
You can view the Acceptable Use Policy at: »www.primus.ca/en/legal/aup.htm and the Terms and Conditions at: »www.primus.ca/en/legal/termsofuse.htm , both of which govern your service.
Please e-mail us at resicredit@primustel.ca or call us at 1-800-433-3325. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday 8-8 EST. Please call immediately regarding this situation.
Sincerely,
Residential Internet Services Primus Canada
Anyway after calling them I got to talk to a really rude customer service rep who kept arguing that not only did they notify me by letter in the mail but they also emailed me. I never recieved either so we elevated to his supervisor.
I explained that I was unaware of the new policy due to not being informed, and that had I known I would have complied (by switching to another ISP). I asked if it would be ok if we could just consider today's email as that notification and drop the $400 some odd charges. No dice. He was extremely rude and cared more about this stupid charge then about saving a customer.
We are also cancelling our long distance plan with Primus. My sincere advice is to stay away from them. First they go back on their word about unlimited downloads without reason or notification, and on top of my nasty experience where it took 2 months for them to troubleshoot my initial hook up of the service, now they treat me very badly. I am very dissatisfied. |
