Just an FYI: I found the source the problem.

I was approved a couple months ago to be a OneCare Live Beta Tester. I installed the program and used it for a couple of months. I suppose just recently it updated and reset settings to default (only allow local network remote connections and do not allow ICMP packets). When I uninstalled the program, these settings weren't reset to WINDOWS default so I could not remote desktop nor could I ping my main machine. I had to reinstall OneCare and report the bug to Microsoft. I'm curious to see what they say.
