NIS2006

Hello,

Whenever I go to one specific website I frequent often this message comes up. I have Internet Explorer on Automatic, why would this pop up?

Using on a wireless laptop hooked to a WRT54GS router.

Thanks!

Set it to "Allow always (recommended)" as the post shows. The same thing happens with 2005 as-well.

Port 67 is not covered by the pre-configured rule for IE. I'd recommend to create a manual rule to allow outbound access to to port 67 (NIS will not allow to limit acces to the IP shown in the screenshot since it won't accept 255.255.255.255 as valid IP). "Allow always" will create a generic Permit rule to allow access to any IP on all ports, not sure if this is desired.

I will get this same pop-up when I go to the website linked below. I have come to the conclusion that it has something to do with the Macromedia Flash player since it only pops up IF I clean out the cache just before opening that page using CCCleaner [wiping out the settings.sol for Flash].

Just what I've noticed...

I am not able to reproduce this in NIS 2006 (defaults; all LiveUpdates) in Windows XP Tablet PC Ed. SP1 (all updates) with an ethernet connection (not wireless) beside a wired Linksys BEFSX41 router. I did get a prompt to update Flash to v8.0 for the first attempt so I allowed that ActiveX control. I tried a few more attempts even clearing caches and cookies. No go for me.

Hmmm...interesting. All I can say is that I see that the ad-servers have changed from yesterday and the week before. [Used to see an Orange County logo - now Ocean Pacific ].... And prompt no longer appears either using NIS 2005 or 2006...

Using XP-Pro SP2 all updates, Liksys router with wired connect...

I will try it next week. It's weekend and I don't have NIS at home. Is anyone else with NPF/NIS able to reproduce this too from Jimbo40's link?

Why would IE be sending BOOTP traffic? It thought DHCP/BOOTP traffic is only sent by svchost/services. Doesn't make sense. Maybe I'm missing something.

I was able to reproduce this with NIS 2005 (all LUs) in XP Tablet PC Ed. SP1 (all updates; VMware v4.5.1). I will report this and reference this thread. Thanks all!

Yep, I already documented it for Symantec as shown in my previous post. Hopefully, they already looked at the issue.

NEVERMIND (deleted my old reply). User error. Basically, I forgot to set the IE rule to automatic rules to reproduce the problem. DOH! Not awake from my vacation.

Hey people! Is this problem still happening? A co-worker and I couldn't reproduce this anymore from that URL. I wonder if something changed (fixed) over there?
