Re: nice

Nothing taken personally. I just find that 5 meg down is okay for my current needs but restoring a huge mysql database at 384kbs just sucks.

Re: nice

No joke, my Charter 5000/512 just isn't cutting it anymore. Give me 5/1+ and I'd be happy for a while.

Re: nice

I've been at 768 up for quite a while now and still dream of having more upload bandwidth. 8mb down is dandy, now lets get 8mb up please(btw 8mbit is about 1megabyte.) 8/8 from all providers minimum! please?

OH! MY! We wait all this time for 6.0 and as soon as it's really here the tears start to roll. SAD, just take time and enjoy your new connection.

Re: nice

Don't you have to be literally glued to the CO to receive this speed?

Like other folks here, I am more concerned with the significantly lower upstream bandwidth and higher latency, as my use for the connection is much more symmetric in nature. No, it's not business, it should be symmetric, as I need to synchronize files among a few computers, and operate one remotely from the other.

Re: nice

I've seen services offered for symmetric. You might try to find a small local-brand provider who can do that for you. You might be surprised at what you can get. In Nashville, Butler Networks (run by a guy I used to go to college with) has a lot of specialty services. Maybe there's some service like that in your local market.

actually, I was wrong. Pricing for Roadrunner premium:

Road Runner Premium only: $84.95
Road Runner Premium With Cable or Digital Phone:
$69.95

Digital Phone Plan: $39.95 per month

Total without taxes: $109.90

Pricing for BellSouth:

DSL extreme 6.0: 46.95
POTS: The BellSouth® PreferredPack® Plan offers you convenience:

* Make unlimited local calls
* Choose up to 5 calling features
* Add or change the included calling features any time, at no extra charge

Total: $26.00

link: »www.bellsouth.com/consumer/local···bpp.html

Total without taxes: $72.95

Re: nice

$72.95 + $24.99 (Unlimited Long Distance) = $97.94 + taxes

Let's compare apples to apples here.

Once you add taxes and fees, you get 2Mbps LESS downstream and probably end up paying more.
