INTENS1Never Stop TryingPremium,MVM join:2002-04-21 Midwest kudos:2 | Keep This IM(s) Just wondering if the "check box" used for housekeeping could be removed when you click "keep this" on an IM. Then when housekeeping, you could "check all" and not have to worry about deleting your kept IMs. In short, the only way to delete kept IMs would be individually. If it's a major problem, forget about it. -- Anticipate Nothing...Expect Everything |

How many IMs do you need to keep beyond two years? |

Mele20Premium join:2001-06-05 Hilo, HI kudos:4 | Well, I never clean house. I keep all IMs for as long as the site allows. I'm a pack rat.
For those who clean stuff, instead of just letting the site do it for them, this is probably a useful thing. I save many IMs to disk also, so I don't really see the need for this but then I don't clean my Outlook Express (except for spam) until the number of messages reaches 5,000 and I think MS should make OE able to hold more than that before it gives trouble.
I'll vote "approve" for those of you who clean too much (IMO). Just don't come asking me for a copy of the IM after you are over zealous in your cleaning. -- Around 2005 a sudden spark will catalyze a Crisis mood. Not every IM is of earth-shattering importance! That's why many of us like to "tidy up" once in awhile. By separating the "wheat from the chaff" now and then, it makes it easier to find specific ones when we have to.
And... you are not pacrat! I am! -- "Veni, Vidi, Volo In Domum Redire" |

Mele20Premium join:2001-06-05 Hilo, HI kudos:4 | OE has nothing to do with IMs here. I just mentioned it as an example of what a packrat I am (even if I am not you!) But you really should see my closets (and under my bed) if you think you may be more of a packrat than I.

INTENS1Never Stop TryingPremium,MVM join:2002-04-21 Midwest kudos:2 | Yes it is...Any IM that is "Kept" must be deleted by clicking delete on that specific IM. For example, if I go to my IM page and select housekeeping, check all and delete checked, all my IMs will be deleted except those that I have marked as kept. -- Anticipate Nothing...Expect Everything |

Sweet WitchBe the flame, not the moth.Premium,MVM join:2003-07-15 Gallifrey | reply to INTENS1 I was just coming here to suggest something similar . My idea though was that they be moved to a seperate 'Kept' folder, and that this folder also includes kept ones I've written, not just incoming ones.
So basically when I choose to keep an IM, it gets moved to a different folder that I can then clean out later as I choose. This would keep the main page(s) from getting too stuffed and not being able to esily find the kept one I'm looking for in the sea of others. -- Never argue with an idiot.
