[Connectivity] Comcast VS. DSL?

Other than speed, it is no better. I am losing connection just as much, and have had to reset the modem/router several times today just to get a connection. It randomly dies or drops out........ same crap I would get DSL.

Frankly, other than speed, there is absolutely NO REASON/ADVANTAGE to get cable, not if you're going to have to reset modem/router just as often.

The Comcast network has been having serious issues since August.......:(

Well we could try to help you but after reading 6 of your post in this thread we still don't know what kind of fricking modem you have.

Its ok, its a LINE issue...and the modem is a Motorola SB5120, just a little over 1 yr old........as stated before, the problems started with the August upgrades, and have been reported to Comcast. LINE tech is needed, and the last call in to tech support stated as such, just that I have to go through a series of loops of reporting it 1000x before they send one....very frustrating.

I think with Comcast many times it is a hit or miss whether you get a good connection area or not. Their tech support leaves much to be desired according to what I have read. Unfortunately it helps to get a good tech when you call and also to sound like you know what you are doing in my experience. It's true you generally only see complainers on here and not the ones who have no or very few issues.

DSL has it's detractors as well though. From my experience DSL can be more problamatic than cable.

You shouldn't be having these issues and they should be fixed. Unfortunately you're caught up in the biggest issue with Comcast. You might try posting on Comcast's own forums and see if Jason can help you out getting it resolved.

I did have an issue here and after several calls it was elevated and a higher level tech was sent to check out my issue as there had been several revisits to my residence. My issue was not at my house wiring either.

I didn't read every post here, but there is no comparison between Comcast Cable and Dsl.
Once I exchanged the RCA modem for the Ambit, I've been consistently getting above 6000/384. Best test has yielded 9060/361 @ Speakeasy! For $42!
Reliability has been excellent!
Have you exchanged your Modem?
Checked/replaced connections/splitters/cable, etc, etc.
Most problems are caused by routers, got one?
Tried hooking cable straight up without router?
Just some idea's that may be useless, who knows.
You should be much happier with cable though, especially over DSL...

I use the comcast gold service w/out cable TV and get 8000/768. I occasionally have to reset my cable modem. In August there were some heavy connectivity problems for several days, which then turned into semi-frequent brief outages. The frequency has decreased ever since and now I only experience outages late at night for 5 to 30 minutes or so -- once or twice it's been for a couple of hours.

I'm content for the most part, though I think that the price is too high... but that being said, DSL (qwest is the telco here) has pretty undesirable pings in my area, and I'm an online gamer, so it's a price that's worth paying for now.

Re: [Connectivity] Comcast VS. DSL?

It works great for me (Comcast), but in the beginning there was some rough going when they were switching their provisioning system to bedrock. Now, it's rock solid. There are issues that will be worked out for you and others, aliasrlz, stick with it, you'll see. I had problems from the start and switched modems, reformatted hard drive, changed cables, etc.. and found out the problem was over on their side (although they will NEVER admit it). If there was something better, I would've switched but for right now, you cant beat it.

bchoate - you should not be experiencing outages every nite for 5 to 30 min, that's also unacceptable. Due to the upgrades requiring greater signal strength, the stability I DID HAVE prior to August is sadly gone. If they don't boost the signal at my line, I will have to downgrade the package so the signal strength requirement is not the same and Comcast will make less money. If everyone did/does that, their revenue numbers should speak mountains when it comes time to post earnings. Thanks for the reply

My problem is "intermittent", but it is THERE!

Elcabong: Thanks! Yes, they will never admit its on their end....but I did get a tech last night (on the phone) that was pretty confident a LINE tech could fix the problem by just putting a booster on my LINE to increase the signal strength. That is a FIRST! .......:D

schja01: Yup, and just like DSL, when they upgraded everyone, the really messed up some of us due to signal requirements. Too bad Comcast did not learn a single thing from the problems of their competitors, not one

I really sympathise with you, man. I know what it is to need that connection and all you get is shit. I had tech come to my place 5 times and nothing. They couldn't tell me what was wrong. They weren't experienced enough to find out the problem. But they fixed it on their end and everything's ok now. I hope everything is resolved and you can get on to other important stuff. Wish you luck.
